  1. Zest look excellent but have never paddled, OK have started bringing the Cabo back in to the UK, might be worth a look, not as extreme as the Zest but loads of storage including a tankwell. http://www.oceankayak.co.nz/index.php?opti...1&Itemid=35
  2. Leave windsurfing boots in the shop, the soles are very thin so that the user can feel the board, you will feel every stone when carrying or towing the yak up the beach, look for Jet Ski or hard soled neoprene boots. SM
  3. I have the Berkeley and the X-Tools lip grips, the X-tools gets the most use only because it has a built in digital scale, wouldn't want to weight a large fish with it though, better off with a normal set of scales such as Little Sampson's, which are extremely accurate. If you only fish in UK waters, there is very little point to having a lip grip, just fish barbless and hold the fish by the hook shank if fishing catch and release. SM
  4. Clousers in various colours and Schminnows that's all I've need this season, sizes 2 - 6, obviously got a wallet full of deceivers and sandeel patterns plus some others, but never had any luck with them. If your tying your own, then get in touch with Austen at saltwaterflies.com SM
  5. Got mine, in fact it was the only thing I caught on, caught weed when trolling, caught weed when retrieving slowly, caught weed when retrieving fast, caught weed when jiggin... Bass plug I guess SM
  6. geoffd, Anchoring in a strong tide is a not advisable, could be very dangerous, most of us find out the hard way with anchoring at slack on a new mark, then the tide starts to run, you try and up anchor... that's when the trouble starts, if you don't succeed with getting the anchor free after a couple of good tugs, cut it free. Sm
  7. That'll be Simon Everett, it's a very nice bit of kit, fast easy paddle, you only realise just how good when everyone is on the beach due to high winds, the kind you can't paddle against and Simon is out there flying up and down the beach as if it's perfectly normal to be doing so... helps that he's a little mad as well though
  8. It would depend on when and where and what I was fishing for: All round general sea fishing with confidence : Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 Long distance/camping/fishing trips : Kaskazi Dorado Fly fishing inshore marks : Wilderness Systems Tarpon 140 River Fishing for Pike : Ocean Kayak Caper For a great days summer fishing with a mate or the kids : Ocean Kayak Malibu II XL SM
  9. Which day was that then Did your parents know you were out with us old men
  10. Yakity, the seat is very comfy but a little hard on the eyes, was testing a 2007 inflatable seat as well, not in the Hawaii Print though. Gogga put me onto them... so well done to Gogga SM
  11. Martin, thanks for inviting me along to what turned out to be an awsome time... spent the whole journey home wandering how I'd gone wrong... should I have had a shower in the morning it wasn't the seat, I was using another one... decided that it wasn't meant to be and that my task for the day had been to bait all the swims for you, getting a scent trail going... look how successful that first corner I anchored up in was after I left, 2 to GB, one to Martin, one to Simon on the fly... see I was a success. As for the snoring, that was Simon, I'm too short to snore. Thanks to Richi for cooking up his excellent cod, for MarcJ for the superb sausage sarnie and the last guests of the Bunk House for leaving some Quality Street behind. Thanks to rest of you for making it a great weekend. Thanks also to my wife for letting me go...
  12. Jon, I have a Malibu II XL and Prowler 13, have yet to paddle an Elite, but until then I rate the Prowler 13 as the best all round kayak available at the moment, it has a large cockpit, large reachable tankwell, it's stable, well behaved going out through waves and handles large swell with ease. It's only negative side is when returning through surf, it has a habit of trying to broach on the smallest of waves, having said this the safest way of getting back to the beach is to ride in on the back of a wave. Prowler 15 and Elite will both be faster, but the 15 has a smaller cockpit, the Elite... well it might just be better, I'll let you know. SM
  13. s2vto, Try and get a paddle over the weekend, happy to let you try the Prowler 13, am sure that Darnsarf will let you play with is Scupper Pro, GB will have is Tarpon 140, if the wind is up and there is a good chop then what better conditions to really prove the abilities of the different models. Please remind me when we meet. Cheers SM
  14. Just loaded the van in readiness, there are 12 very excited chaps going to be fishing this weekend, just hope that the weather is kinder than forecast. I reckon there will be a few new toys getting an airing, going to be a lot of fun... here fishy fishy. SM
  15. Totally agree there is little chance of it happening, but better to try and lose than not to have tried at all. Bill, I don't want you using the horses head again, made one hell of a mess Thanks Chaps SM
  16. They look very well made, but have yet to paddle one, have promised to do a review, just got to plan the day SM
  17. If you want paddling ease and a lot more speed stick with the Prowlers, the Tarpon 140 sticks to the water, it's not slow, just psychologically slower. SM
  18. Self explanatory really, deadline tomorrow. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Seafishstocks/
  19. Nice one Bill and even better Mrs Bill, glad your all sorted... glad to see your Italian connections worked Dave
  20. That'll depend with what's on the menu
  21. Sorry for the late congrats Richi, another worthy speciman, you might find a few people rubbing against you for luck at the Pike meet Don't forget your sail, 35mph winds on Saturday Sm
  22. I would expect a dry suit to let in a little water if you fall in as well, any trapped air will be pushed out the seals, usually via the neck and that's when the water comes in. Nowt to worry too much about though. Sm
  23. I'm bringing some trace gear with me Simon, Dennan Speed Clips with swivels, happy for you to have just the one , think there are 4 or five left in the pack, will have some other clips with me as spares, if I can get some more I will. Sm
  24. Bill, Would also be worth finding out whether they went bust before they took your money, if so you may be able to take criminal proceedings against them. Also find out who the receivers are, if they had the radio in stock you may be able to get a reasonable outcome through them, worth a try. Good Luck mate. Sm
