  1. Of course they are innocent. Whatever the Pakis and Indians do is entirely within the rules as they see them or as they make them up. There is no way that anything they do could be construed as cheating. Just look that the way they can insult players from other countries but as soon as they get some back they start screaming "Racialism". Sadly even Clive Lloyd backed the Indians against Adam Gilchrist who was probably the most honest man in cricket!
  2. Is it likely that anyone could give a damn about anything that Jeremy Clarkson says about anything.
  3. In Alaska and, I believe, some other American states you are legally obligated to take the meat from animals you shoot while it is still in an edible condition. If a Ranger finds you in possession of meat that cannot be eaten then you will be prosecuted. I don't know about caribou but to hunt some animals you get a licence to shoot one per season and if you shoot a large moose you know that you are going to have your work cut out carrying out all of the meat. There is one very good idea practiced in Alaska in the event of edible animals killed on the road. A local charity is called and someone butchers the animal at the side of the road and the meat is given to the needy. I know one thing, they can give me a bit of moose steak any time they like - it is delicious. If any of you get the opportunity to try some, do not allow it to be marinated, the flavour of the meat is not as gamy as some say and it is a shame to kill that flavour.
  4. :clap2: Did they throw its ashes on the bank?
  5. Yeah, it's a strange one that. It seems that for just a few seconds after being spiked you have an incredible sense of euphoria, then the pain starts........
  6. Chub Frenzy, if you want to catch good fish, you are really going to have to do a lot of work of your own to achieve that. There is no short cut other than the pay and catch fisheries but the bigger fish you want to catch, the more work you are going to have to do to catch them. There are countless books on carp fishing and a very good starter is Still-Water Angling by Dick Walker. That book enables you to understand what "Water craft" is all about and, if you have been thinking about your fishing, it will blow your mind as you read it. There are more modern techniques when it come to carp fishing than those that appear in that book and they are worth researching too. If you want to catch a 30lb carp I would suggest that you read everything you can about carp fishing, fish waters with 30 pounders in it, spend hours creeping around fish watching and be prepared to spend a lot of hours fishing for your 30 pounder. There ain't no easy way of catching fish like that. You have to do a lot of work to get them.
  7. I am sure that I remember Dick Walker and Fred Taylor telling me - many years ago - of a gudgeon they had seen in Redmire that was estimated at around a pound in weight. I am sure that they wouldn't have been too far out in any estimate they may have made, and they would have known the difference between a gudgeon and a barbel.
  8. I haven't looked at all of this, it is just too distressing. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/expat/expatpict...ritish-pub.html
  9. Honest politician? Isn't that an oxymoron?
  10. It's about time that some new law was brought in which would deal specifically with the situation in which some one dies following an attack whether or not the death was due to injuries sustained in the attack. But for the actions of these boys, the guy would still be alive, but all they will be charged with is assault. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13...steal-bike.html

    13lb Eel

Yeah, those congers turn up everywhere! A claimed record fresh water eel from the Grand Union Canal turned out to be a conger and it got very close to being accepted before it was rumbled. It was only after that the captor admitted that he had found it dead and decided to claim the record.

    13lb Eel

Good idea, that will leave the news agent who has paid for the magazine with something he cannot sell.
  13. Not much you can do when it is three to one against you. Not only do I sympathise with you regarding your injuries I also sympathise with you over the anger you must be feeling. But scum like them always want to make sure that you have no chance of winning. I hope that you were able to give descriptions.

    Kia Ora

I tried Bio Magnesium tablets and they sure do stop night cramps. However, they made me into a methane production plant and I reckon that on a good day, I could have cleared Wembly Stadium! These days I have a banana each day and that seems to be working OK. Schweppes tonic water still contains quinine so there is a ready source of the stuff there.
  15. Was that from the Ouse?
  16. I'm afraid that this comment suggests that you are hardly taking the discussion seriously. There is no evidence of the shark or anyone else cutting its throat, that its throat was cut seems to be an assumption on your part and does not appear to be supported by any evidence.
  17. There used to be a lot of good pike and chub there too. The trees over hanging the river where the backwater and river meet was a fabulous chub hole and it was for that swim that I asked Alan Brown to make the rod that was called the Chevin for me. If you do well, please PM me because I sometimes miss posts here.
  18. Hmmm, when I was stationed at Sennybridge we were never given casting lessons to fish the Usk. However, I did manage to get a few trout out of the river by dapping so even if I couldn't cast it really wouldn't have mattered. When the menu was so often sheep killed during maneuvers a bit of fresh trout made a pleasant change!
  19. Well I guess that it is a small shark compared to some of those we catch here but it really isn't quite as small as you try to imply. As far as being beaten up, a shark is quite capable of doing that kind of damage to its self once it hits the deck of a boat. In fact unless a shark has wrapped its self up in the trace and leader I will not have them in my boat however small they might be. I make sure that there is no plating on the hook in the area of the barb and snip the trace as close to the hook as I can. The hook soon rusts away and it doesn't appear to hurt the shark in the mean time. As Dean'0 says, you do appear to be rather intense about a fish you dismiss as being insignificant, but I guess you have your own reasons for that and you are entitled to those and your opinions - as of course are those who are at odds with you.
  20. I don't know if it is still the same, but I used to get good healthy tomato plants from the Aston Clinton sewage farm. I used to go there to get brandlings but where they dumped all of the processed silt there was always a lot of tomato plants growing. They transplanted well and produced plenty of tomatoes too.
  21. There is a restaurant I have been to in China which is on the banks of a fair sized lake and which is regularly stocked with fish that grow quite quickly. Near the kitchen is an enclosure which is lined with a net. Anglers are allowed to fish the lake, but they have to put any fish they catch into the enclosure. When the restaurant owner wants more fish for the kitchen, he and a couple of other guys pull up the net and take out the fish they want.
  22. I caught a number of barbel from the weir pool at Hemmingford Grey. Fishing is no longer allowed from the bank there, but you may be able to fish the pool from a boat.
  23. I remember fishing at Denge many years ago and as I walked down the stripping beach top cast I noticed one of those large brown cider bottles laying on the shingle. I thought no more of it until one of my mates asked me if I had seen that shell and pointed to the bottle. I walked down to it and saw that it was an unexploded shell. We wondered if we should leave but figured that if it had been washed around for 20 years or so, it would probably be safe enough for another night so we just made sure that we never kicked it as we were casting or landing fish. We never caught any soles that night which was sad - a wonderful fish are soles.
  24. Cold smoking is the way to go, and I built a cold smoker from an old fridge/freezer. I ripped out all of the works so that I was able to move it around easily and then I stripped all of the insulation out of the fridge cabinet, but left it in the freezer area. I then drilled two 20mm holes in the bottom of the fridge area, and lots of them the through the separator between the fridge and freezer units, and then three though the top of the freezer unit. This way, the smouldering wood is in the fridge area with a very small air supply which prevents the wood from bursting into flame. Being as the walls of the fridge area are very thin sheet metal any heat generated by the wood is soon lost through those walls. The cabinet. I use a beer mix can as the smoke generator and I drill three holes of about 10mm around the base of the can. Again it is important to keep airflow to the minimum, burning wood gives off little smoke and more heat. In the bottom of the can, I put four barbecue heat beads and a couple of 25mm cubes of a local wood called Banksia. Unfortunately you need to set a day aside for cold smoking a batch of fish, because heat beads and wood cubes need replacing quite frequently. You soon learn how to judge when it is time to replace the wood by looking at the density of the smoke escaping from the top holes. The fish fillets can be hung in the freezer area or rested on grills as you wish but once you have things set up properly there will be no heat in the area and after eight to ten hours your fish will have a good colour and a lot of flavour. I would love to be able to try some haddock, I used to love smoked haddock from the local smoke house when I was a kid. Although the process is a bit labour intensive I consider it to be well worth while and if the fish is vacuum packed and kept in the freezer it will keep for a considerable period of time. The smoke generator.
