  1. Hope it puts an end, once and for all, to all those who would have us believe the Labour Party would ban angling. You can put me and my 19st+ behind PW in the red corner, Mike. lyn, A draft of the Charter was circulated to angling bodies before the Election was called [ 08. 2. Make a friend out of someone at your Local Planning Department. I obtained somed great satellite photographs of my club waters, can almost read car number plates. Apparently they are used for checking on building work that does not have planning permission
  3. You're lucky Jim/Alan, I never get chance to start. Little wonder that most of us on here, if not out fishing, are hidden away it little rooms, garages etc. 'talking' on forum boards. I too remember the Kevin ******** article. Steff Horrocks wrote similarly in CAT about chub on light tackle, he too was taken to task. Is the "********" in fear of retribution?
  4. I do seem to remember when the CA first flopped out the belly of the BFSS that one of it's aims was to depose Labour MP's (perhaps some who do support them should really look at what they want from being an MP, and do they represent their constituents) No names but she's Irish and represents people in London, and just where does she now stand re her alleged support for angling? Just where does this latest act of lunacy leave the CA's 'Campaign for Angling'? As Mike rightly suggests, Martin is our 'key' to the decision makers. Mike, If we don't like the policies of any party/organisation there is nothing, as an individual, that can be done from 'outside' If it had not been for the many like minded people who did get involved in the LP in the late 80's, we would now have a 'Militant' opposition party. 5. How much for a life membership, chesters? I would suggest the CA came into being to give the British Field Sports Society a more acceptable face. (or should that be mask)
  6. Tony U, re the Tweed, I have not fished the river for over 20 years, ever since when on our last visit to Horncliffe we wittnessed 10's of 1000s of roach and dace being loaded into the backs of waggons. I'm sure there will be some coarse fish left in the system, but I have not heard of a single fish reported from the river for many a year
  7. quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by Stewart_Bloor: I fished a new stretch of the Severn today for roach but blanked. Although in all fairness it was a hard day to judge. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If the weather was anything like we have up here Stuart, you deserve a Knighthood, never mind the proverbial medal. The Tweed used to provide some massive roach but sadly we never used to weigh them in those days. In fact, the big fish were always returned; we only ever retained those we were to ‘liberate’ A recent match on the Wear produced an all roach catch of 23lb, 4 of which weighed just over 10lb,the best being 2lb-12oz. 8. Should we ban the CA as a topic on AN? Yes please. I beleive 'angling' should have no connection or association with it. "Maybe angling only counts as hunting if you ever catch anything" That lets me off the hook then! [ 24. February 2005, 09:40 AM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  9. What about people who do not have an obvious disability, but are still on benefit and unable to work? As I have said on another thread, this system is flawed. The whole purpose of the Concessionary Rod Licence was to give a reduced rates to those on reduced income through some kind of permanent disability. The Blue Badge scheme does not take into account those with the Blue Badge, but in full time employment. My benefit is also paid directly into my bank, but I still have the paperwork showing my entitlement to benefit. Personally I could not see a problem with the previous system. [ 23. 10. Ther used to be a pub at the corner of The Springs/Warrengate where you could catch almost anything. ...sorry. The Half Moon, cought my very first fish from there. Just remembered, the pub used to be called the Dolphin when I was a "gay" young man about town. [ 21. February 2005, 08:49 AM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  11. Non drivers who qualify can get the Blue Badge,Ferret, but only for their use when in a vehicle.
  12. Confused Chesters, you will be. Cessionary licences for disabled. As I understand as from April 2005 any angler applying for this will only have to show a Blue Disabled drivers badge. This in itself is flawed as many persons who previously qualified for the disabled concession (as given above) will be disenfranchised,(unless they hold the said badge) and there are many people currently holding a Blue Badge actually in full employment. No one at the EA seems capable of drawing the distinction between a disabled person on benefit, and by implication on reduced income, and a person with walking difficulties but probably not financially challenged. The Blue Badge scheme (as far as the rod licence issue goes) was devised to make administration easier, and for no other reason. Again it comes down to the "advice" given by members of RFERAC's, who in many cases know bugger all about fisheries or fishing. One legged Bangladeshi lesbians bird watchers-yes, but fishing matters S.F.A. I'm all for providing facilities for "disabled" anglers,(I'm one myself) but there is a difference between those who as I stated earlier, are possibly in full time employment but qualify for the Blue Badge, and those on reduced income through another type of, and less obvious, disability. Incidentally, I believe the BDAA gave the OK to this hair-brained idea. [ 16. February 2005, 11:09 PM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  13. Try here, http://www.chubbycarrier.com/ At least it will be better than sharing with the barbel anglers. Sorry Even after an hour it's not as boring as a barbel angler [ 06. February 2005, 11:01 PM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  14. Those leading have the will to make FACT a success and work , but as everything in life it comes down to money. I can remember the row when the NFA wanted to increase subscriptions by I think 5/-(25P) In the end 'angling' gets what it deserves. Will the real "Mathew Black" please stand up. I cant speak for the original bearer of the name, but I would think he would want to distance himself from the rantings of the current user. No other inference meant by 'user' by the way.
  15. Look on www.durhamanglers.co.uk Front page
  16. Like the Eastenders laundry bag, Peter. Could never see anything wrong with the original name, and the success and repution was built on that
  17. ...and assists in removal in some instances. Chris Tarrant was President of the ACA not Chair, Cranfield.
  18. I once suggested Arthur Scargill for the E.A. top job.(instead of Barbara Young)He might not look too good in a flowery dress at garden parties but, he would kick a few arses.
  19. Phil, Locking people out. It can happen within the most unlikely organisations. It happened to my wife (she was chair of a large publicly funded organisation) By the time she had access to her office much of what she needed had disappeared. Of course I would be the last person to suggest it could happen within the ACA. To date we have only heard officially from the Chair. A totally unbiased reflection, of course. Pete, I believe Peter K is one of many ACA Council Members who has resigned in recent weeks. [ 14. December 2004, 03:03 PM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  20. In the Chairs letter published Anglers Mail 30th November he says; We will keep you updated on matters through our web site - www.a-c-a.org Just how long does it take for them to update a web page? I'm no genious or web expert, but can update my club 40 page site in less time than you can boil an egg. Perhaps their web expert has also resigned?(it appears to be the thing to do within the ACA at the moment) And we (my club) are still waiting for site of the ACA Constitution and Standing Orders.
  21. What implications does becoming a Charitable Trust bring?
  22. Just one of the benefits of a club taking out membership of NAFAC; the insurance it can arrange for its members I could be mistaken, but the name of a solocitor who now carries out work for, and on behalf of its membership, used to take on work for the ACA. [ 10. December 2004, 01:38 PM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
  23. A think you will find that 'fishing and fisheries' have been excluded from the new bill.
  24. Any loss of membership would be considered 'a dicline' I am sure that many clubs will now be considering the best way to spend their members money. Contributing to severance pay is not one that springs readily to mind. Just what is happening about the SGM? Bob and Jane may have gone, but I would suggest the underlying problem is still there.
  25. I only hope the S/EGM goes ahead. I would have expected that the announcement would have been made to those who are to pay the severance money, the members of the ACA, before any public statement was made. Surely, any payment made to the two should show in the audited accounts, thats if anyone ever gets to see them. [ 03. December 2004, 11:15 PM: Message edited by: wearyone ]
