And in basic terms; 1) If you have the negatives the law can assume that you have been granted copyright. 2) If the items are not marked with the international copyright mark and noted the year in which made etc etc. The 'owner' will have an awful job making a case against you in Court for 'Publishing' them. 3) In the circumstances you have outlined I do not feel that you have any worries of copyright infringement unless the information you have, together with and accopanying the items leads a 'reasonable person' to believe that a copyright infringement could have taken place by your actions.

It's a legal term. If you have access to Law Books you can find it in R -v- Lawrence. (I think 1982 but not sure on that part) It is one of those occasions where a word gets entered into 'Collins' after being used by a High Court Judge. In similar circumstances you will not be able to find the word "Gullible" in any other English Dictionary but 'Collins' (I apologise for being serious for a brief moment and now go back to normality............)

I am sorry but an awful lot of Aussies have links to the good old Isle of Wight. So, perhaps we are kindred spirits of a sort. In fact I think, despite the figures posted, that something like 70% of third and fourth generation 'Aussies' have a link to the Isle of Wight.

Ummmmm 2 Tons a day is an awful lot of smuts if they are to blame! Blame the EEC which prohibits the return of whelk shells to the sea. After harvest and cleaning they HAVE to be taken to landfill sites and disposed of. Therefore a lack of 'housing' prevents the hermit crabs expansion. Perhaps we should tell the Govt. that Hermit Crabs are Polish Citizens and then they would get looked after better.
