  1. Depends on if you have transport and what type of transport you have . There are some great marks in the area and some require a 4x4 or a long walk. Dillydangler and my-self go out in the area as much as poss if you want you could join us as i pick paul up in Braunton.
  2. A place just out of Taunton have just told me that thier sevice charge is £30.00 per cylinder plus anything else reqired. So thats £90 before they even start.

    Boat Owners

Well heres mine. I try to get out as much as possible with her only work seems to keep getting in the way. As you can see it's work in progress. The next job is one I'm not looking forward to. The previous owner put a metal keel band on Her and used steel screws Needless to say they have started to rust out and leak slightly. The bilge pump works well though. As for mooring, I live 20 miles from the coast so it is easyer to trailer it around and it gives me the option of launching from north or south coast. None of the places to moor in north devon are realy safe. Got a new trailer for her two months ago from neptune trailers and diving which only cost £485.00. As for top speed, so far 34 knots in calm seas. The power house is a 65hp mercury blue band which goes like hell and been reliable as any thing (cheers Steve, best buy I think I've had).

    educating poles

They are in the EU now so there licence is valid over here. we're the only country open for them to work in for long periods of time with out work permits at the moment but that is changing this year. As for the driving standards still must be better than there mls
  6. We have two poles who have started to work for us as bus drivers and over the last few weeks I have been given the task of traing them to drive on the 'wrong' side of the road. Both are married and nice guys and one used to go course fishing in Poland. so the invite was given out to him to go sea fishing last friday night. The venue was to be cod pit in the taw/ torridge estuary and the target fish coddling and also the possibilty of picking up a bass. We would travel down for just after high due to work commitments and Dillydangle and some mates would be there already. After failing to find the walkway in the dark and draging the poor pole over what seemed like a thousand sand dunes we turned up on the shore line some 20 mts away from the walkway and about 50 meters away from Dilly's party. The weather was appauling, a strong head on wind was making casting very difficult but also keeping the tide up high and making the sea state very very rough. I don't think i've seen white horses like these before in the estaury. We duely set up one rod each, baited up and cast out. It wasn't long before the first bass came in, a good condition bass of about 26-28 cm, it was quickly returned and the fishing continued. The pole was stood there looking bemused that we had put the bass back. A few mor bass came to the shore but were all just under size and returned. Then it was the poles turn to bring in a bass of about 28 cm. The look of delight on his face was great but when we returned it this look soon changed. He realy could not belive that we let his catch go back to the sea. I tried to explane to him that there are limits on the size of the fish we catch in england. His reply:- In Poland bass is a 'pirate fish' ( his words) and any bass caught no matter how big can be taken for the table. These fish in Poland are a problem to sea and course fishing and are to be removed from the water if caught. The traing goes on with this chap and he already understands that he can't take everything he may catch.

  10. 14 years ago I saved two at saunton sands N. Devon. They had been drinking at a beach party and decided to go for a swim at 2 in the morning in November. managed to drag one to shore and threw him in the van and drove up to saunton sands hotel where I got the police coast gaurd and an ambulance. the other was still out in the sea and the rescue helicopter was dispatched. when the police arrived I was bretherlized and failed due to me haveing two cans of carlsberg speical brew just before it all kicked off ( I was on an allnighter not going home till the next morning) They found the missing lad clinging to the rocks suffering with exposure just in time. the one i rescued was sufering exposure and made a quick recovery. As for the drink driving charge it was dropped due to the extream curcumstances.

    Bornemouth

I am taking a coach load of grannies to bornemouth for there christmas turkey and tinsel tomorrow. looking at the itinery the work load is eazy and i will be finnished by 3 each day with all day off on thursday. Is it worth me taking my telescopic rod and a few bits and pieces? If so, where are there any decent marks in the area?, can you walk to them? as i only have a 12 m coach as transport. Is there a tackle shop near the sea front?
  12. come April they will be gone from here
  13. Sunday, Dillydangle and myself took the boat out in search of the illusive codling around North Devon. The day started at six for me scraping the ice off the landrover and loading all the gear on to the boat, After getting covered in ice from the boat cover. Picked dillydangle up at 8 oclock and was at the slip way for nine. The engine was warmed up and was then time to head for the mark/marks we intended to fish. We had already been told the codling were there but to move around to find them from a very kind gent who was on the slip. Opening up the throttle very quickly brought tears to our eyes, the cold was unbearable. Being brave as we are we hide behind the cabin best we could, well dillydangler did, I was at the helm. We got to our first mark at about 9:30 and dropped anchor. Good news the fish finder was showing fish Fist drop Dillydangle had a good bite from what was very obviously a cod, but he missed it 10 mins into the fishing the first codling came aboard, complements of Dillydangler, about 2 lbs. Then the 2nd came in at about 3lbs and a 3rd and a 4th ect all by dillydangler. me , not even a nod. After about an hour things went quite for Dillydangle, we discussed moving to another mark, but decided to stick it out. In the mean time alot more boats had turned up but were further out than us, they didn't seem to be catching either. During all this time we were plaged by tiny spiders blowing in the wind. one landed on the rod I was using and dillydangle was going to remove it but i told him to leave it as it was my lucky spider. Instantly my rod gave the typical nod, nod of a cod. All in all, A good day for North devon fishing, We both boated about a dozen fish and released most of them, keeping only deeply hooked fish. And they tasted lovely.

    Boat Fishing

I got my own small boat due to the fact of getting enough people interested, or more to the point paying for the hire of a charter boat. O.K. I can only get three on my boat but the cost for a days fishing is the same as paying out to go on a charter boat. The added bounus is I can go when or where I like.

    Washed Out Again

Not surprised, the water was nearly three foot deep.
  17. I had a few spare hours last sunday so thought that a bit of fishing might help cheer me up. The problem was getting out of my home town. not to be put off buy a bit of water i tried my best but was having second thoughts. After the photo, a car hit the flood water and stalled. I went over to help and noticed the car starting to float away complete with passengers. Quickly fixing some rope to the car a quick tow saw the car back to dryish land. The decision then to go home was compouned even more by being soaking wet before i had even got to the coast. yet again another day's fishing lost.

    My Poor Boat

I think if the insurence write it off due to safty resones, then you will be unable to buy it back anyway.

    My Poor Boat

This is almost the same kind of damage to my boat, but not on the same scale. It is repairable but will take time The insurence will probly right it off, but if you have the time it is repairable. so might be worth buying it back off them. I am in the lucky position of having a fibreglass engineer working for me now, (he started after i repaired my boat) sods law. As said above it will take time and you will need room to work around the boat. A normal car garage will probly be to small. The first thing required is the boat will need to be thuraly dryed out and turnded on to it's side. Two layers of couse fiberglass will need to be glassed on the inside of the boat and another two glassed on the out side. If these instructions don't make sense you will have to excuse me as i've just got out of the pub That is after all the damaged glass has been remover with a sander/grinder. All cracks and weak point are included in this. After this you can then start to build up the hull with ever decrecing grades of glass matting untill you are ready for the gell coat. Just read that back and does not seem to make sence at all P.M. me if you want more help.

    Catching Cod

Down here in North Devon we are getting reports of some strange fish being caught. Apperantly they are called cod/codling. Now, being a southern softy I would like some positive input from you guys for best methods and tacktics The last two years I have had a few codling but nothing to shout about so am open to new ideas to try. Whats the best ground to try for them as well?
