  1. Last time I was up that way,the gate at the far end of the quarry was locked so we couldn't get along to the tree mark, the midges in this area are bloody fearsome to say the least, even by covering myself in skin so smooth,I still couldn't avoid these beasties. Snatcher your not losing the plot mate ,the beauty of the landscape/wildlife is one of the joys of fishing.(it is for me,anyways.) cheers

    frozen baits

sounds like a good idea this microwave to defrost/warm up the bait.I'm gonna give this a shot, pick a heavily coloured sea and see how it goes from there,I'll let you know how I get on. Might even try it as a ploy at the Newbiggin Open this Sunday, some geezer won with 6lb odd of flatties last year,so you never know. As for the mussel-shelling Arthur probably the worst job of all the bait gathering tasks mate, but it's a must, just got to have mussel and tons of the stuff too. cheers

  4. sounds like a grand little session,good photos,cheers....
  5. well put summer, satisfaction comes from all the prep/homework and getting it right,I'm still hopeless at comps tho.daylight scares me.
  6. never caught a sizable bass locally,I'm always amazed when I catch one, usually fishing for codling etc on the beaches when I get one. I have heard of bigger ones caught but I do'nt think people target them much around here.
  7. When and where summer, or is it a secret? good tides later in the month 18th/19th got to head somewhere when they are that low...
  8. Any chance of a sample?
  9. most of the angler's up this way buy farmed rag as it's on the doorstep at Lynemouth.I don't think you can buy it any cheaper from the grower because of tackle shops complaining to the company that it was'nt worth selling it if they undercut then from the door! I'm far to stingy to buy worm and also enjoy the fact that I catch fish on rigs I've tyed ,bait I've collected etc...
  10. Ok it was caught in 1975 by a work mate of mine, but how do I get it from my pictures onto Angler's net???
  11. some cracking cod seas up here lately if it was oct/nov.but crap for much else really, the crab peel has suffered too,I'm trying to find some to buy, what with cold weather and work.it's all too much really...oh dear.

    Diawa-seiko 400?

Thats the one Norm,it holds tons of line and seems to be in good nick.I don't know where I'll use it tho,but if I do fish deep water hopefully it'll do the business..
  13. Also fished Clashnessie a few years ago, catching good Plaice and eating tons of Mussels.
  14. sorry to pop the question chaps, but has anyone got any gen. on these old reels. I have been given one {you know the score neighbours know your'e into fishing and give you things...} are they any good for modern day fishing.I know for certain some of you's are gonna tell me that you've been fishing with old gear for years without any probs.well I'd certainly like to hear about that to.cheers
  15. Hundred quid set-up lads, can you give me more info?
  16. Aye lots of kelp, fresh peeler with a big single bright orange scottish mussel tied to it's back does the business for me,although I've never had a codling over 5lbs in the summer, but seen some nice fish caught at Newton,Boulmer and Beadnell. Had a look at this geezer's site that gets on the Nesa forum.photo recce it's called and some of the places on there looked tremendous-Staithes and surrounds, I would love to have a go down that way,do you have any info on the area?
  17. I come from a game fishing background and work used to have away overseas most of the summer so I used to miss the trout season,I had sort of withdrawal symptoms while I was in S.Africa and got talking to a local guy he took out on his boat/shore and suddenly I was catching all sorts of wonderful things small tuna, cob and the likes. when I got back home I asked a good friend of mine who's fished the Northumberland coast most of his life if he would take me under his wing and my addiction started from that point really.
  18. thanks for the advice Summer I'll be buying a concord pump very soon and I'll be trying to cool them down abit more, will let you know how I get on.If I come across some more decent whiteworm I'll sort you out with some or show you where cheers.
  19. any chance of a look at your handywork at the tying vice Snatch,do you have any photos of these killer lures? Tried a few homemade bath sealant jellyworms with limited sucess.
  20. Apologies for the very late reply Summer, work commitments are a pain in the arse. I change the water everyday and it comes from fresh clear seawater pools close by,the 'tanks' are just plastic cheapo containers got from wilkos sized 15x12 inch I have cheap aerators from the local tackle shop, the kind people use for keeping sandeels alive for a number of hours these are battery powered 2x1.5 v thanks...
  21. me crabs are dying before they peel,I had the same problem last year.I did receive some advice about edibles/velvets needing deeper, colder and aerated water. done this but they still don't like it and give up the ghost..can't figure it out, anyone got any suggestions?

    Looe

Hi, my mate is heading to Looe for a family holiday quite soon,I've looked on the net for info but so far drawn a blank. Can anyone help me out with baits, best times/tides,and some safe places he can fish with the lads for flatties etc.Any help would be just grand.thanks
  23. Cheers R22,hope to be that way soon, from the shore with big baits for red cod and hokkais for the maccy, it,s only an hour in the car so might have run up next week.it,s usually a fortnight after the boats are catching maccy that they hit the shore ,if the weather holds up...cheers again
