  1. I'm just going to have to buy some wire and trebles and give dead baiting a go any excuse to go fishing i would not mind if you told me my suggestion was stupid, we can all have our own opinion, even if everyone else is wrong (only joking) I'm very thick skinned and easy going (i have to be in my job).
  2. i did not know what a larks head was so i googled it and found that the larks head / cow hitch "is perhaps the least secure of any hitch as you need to apply equal strain to both ends to make sure that the knot is secure". However an extra tuck can change this insecure knot into a very secure one, the Pedigree Cow. this info came from a scout web site i dont know a lot about wire traces but i do know a bit about electrical wiring using both crimped and soldered connectors, crimped ones you can pull off, soldered ones the wire snaps before the solder gives way (most of the time).
  3. just had a thought - it may be a stupid one, has anyone ever tried soldering the wire ? i know this would make the wire stiff but so does a crimp, and twisting.
  4. a month or two back i had the same jack three times while float fishing a worm on light tackle, third time i did get it in the net, it was about 18 inch long,
  5. i once made up a job lot, i used a bit of stainless bar with a hook bent in one end and put the other in my cordless drill, it made a very neat job of the twists and was so easy to do.
  6. yes - if it had been a coarse fishing mag i may have gone for it
  7. (link removed by jeff - use link on eltons post) Receive a FREE Wychwood Rage 60 Reel when you subscribe to UK Carp for 12 months! 12 issues for £42 the wife sent me this link - bless her !! the thing is I'm not really a carp fisher (i do have a go every now and then), i would read the mag. what i would like to know is about the reel, - is it a good reel, would it be worth me subscribing to get the reel ? Jeff

  10. last friday the father in law and myself went down the local river, it was still dark as we started fishing. a few hours latter a walker came up asking if anyone had a phone as he thought the was a body in the river, we ran up the bank to find he was right, it was a young man floating face down. if it had drifted down to were we were fishing while it was still dark i think i would have s**t myself.
  11. sorry to say the pic is not very good, as my mind was not really on the job. a guy walking the bank came to us asking if anyone had a Mobile phone as there was a body floating in the drain (25 yard from were we was fishing).
  12. the ones that i was catching were certainly giving bite indication, i was fishing a running ledger on a feeder rod with worm section as bait, a lot of the bites were so vicious it shook the hole rod so much i thought i had a right monster on, they would then give a good fight for 5 or 6 seconds then give up.
  13. why stop at just a drink, my father in law used to take a full english breakfast in a flask to work.
  14. i think i will have to tell the wife i have to go and catch one so i can take a picture of it - extra fishing trip these were near to a pumping station.
  15. did try to take pics but they did not come out. smallest was about 3 inch, largest was about 6 inch if they are ruffe they were not rare here today i landed about 25 of them
  16. today i went fish and was catching fish that we could not identify, its body shape fins etc was just like a perch but the color was all wrong, it was green with dark spots / blotches just like a pike. can anybody shine any light on this as it got us foxed, has googled but found nothing like. Jeff

  20. I have also had one of those im a stupid prat moments. I loaded the car, dropped my lad of at work and drove to a local river for a nice relaxing morning. I unloaded the car, started walking up the bank, stopped for a chat with two guys that were already fishing, off I went down the bank, 100 yards latter I stopped as I realised what I had done, swearing under my breath I walked back to the car. I stopped and told the two guys and they were great offering me a few bits and pieces but I decided to go home and get …….. Yes I had left all my bait at home. The two guys looked after my gear while I drove home and got it.
