The comedian Al Murry had it right Where are you if you have no rules? FRANCE Where are you if you have too many rules? BRITAIN When the EU issue a directive of 25 pages the french throw out what they dont want and have a 2 page directive. The british form a quango to discuss the merits of the directive and turn iy into a 100 page directive When it comes to legislation the whole world must be laughing at the UK. Every T crossed every I dotted and followed to the letter Never mind black fish just wander round the fish markets of europe and see the undersize fish for sale first hand -
If you take a boat to france to transit the cannal system they will charge duty on what you have on board but thats the french for you

if you don't like the science, the answer is to get better science, not ignore it that sounds like IF YOU DONT LIKE THE SCIENCE THEN GET SOME SCIENCE THAT YOU DO LIKE

long way to paddle a longliner and then find either the french have trawled it or the local sfc has a bag limit

bag Limits Might be Closer Than You Think!
slackline replied to Leon Roskilly's topic in Conservation & Politics
If i read this correctly leon you would have it that the only way people could eat fish is to go and catch it them selves Does this mean if you cannot catch what you want you cannot have it -
I May be mistaken on this but i think there was an area in northumberland where digging worm was banned in the 1980's some where like Budle bay Strange thing was there was sand extraction happening not far away on the same coast. There are also stories of northeast anglers useing brown crab for bait. If its not being bought from commercials then its a fair bet the brown crab is undersize caught on the shoreline

Big Cod - DEFRA are after you and your skipper friends.

Careful Paul they may make it a day licence and ask/make charter boat skippers collect the dues and forward them, just like they do with VAT -

just goes to show if you stamp your feet and shout loud and long some one will take notice and do some thing to stop the noise and fuss commercial stocks are those that have a market value -
Seems to me the only thing your hot on is beer and jack & coke Never saw jo today will try and get some cover before the weekend. Forecast looks all westerly for the next 4 days so we might just get some string wet. If this high pressure stays i will take bait out friday night

Its amazing that no one has mentioned the island of Lundy. There has been a total exclusion zone around Lundy for about 3 years and detailed mapping of seabed species has shown a massive increase in quantiy size and diversity of species. i am sure some of you web wizards can find more info to post. A quict scrat on google came up with this http://www.lundy.org.uk/inf/mnr.html[/url then to english nature and this http://www.english-nature.org.uk/news/story.asp?ID=444://http://www.lundy.org.uk/inf/mnr.htm...tory.asp?ID=444

If posters would keep their comments to facts and not resort to personal or generalised attacks on people or groups with conflicting oppinions then there is not a need. All people need to do is be civilised
-
Sorry to say this but if you take out the politics and conservation then you would be left with very little input to the rest of the section Why not start a new one where political and conservation as well as member posted adverts are banned

On the subject of subsidies The EU boffins have just revealed that our new member states have over claimed subsidy for live stock payment that is over 50% more than the stock they have. Very ismilar to the greek and italian olive trees from some years ago. Perhaps some of this fraudulently obtained cash can be recovered and pay for tie up time for fishing boats -
Licenses, Bag Limits, MPAs, SFCs

Hi Leon I dont like the term enableing legislation It simply means they dont have to discuss any more and can impliment as and when they want As for number s of responses what about the hunting lobby the anti Iraq war lobby and watch for the results of the 4 million name petition on rural post offices Tony and his cronies wil do what they want when they want -
Did you read the bit that excludes foriegn boats from this piece of legislation Very much in line with the bass MLS
-
what i am getting at Leon is DEFRA dont seem to be able to quantify the benefit of the measures so far other than to say stocks are healthy ??????? so why change the size
-
One of the best tips i can give is gut it bleed it and wash it asap then if your out on a boat as i am sure you are John keep it coverd with a wet cloth a proper hessian sack works well (and keep it wet) It was heart breaking to see so much fish cooking in black bin liners in the past (the black bags absorb the heat from the sun and work like a slow cooker

Dont know your area stavey but i can assure you that whitby has virtually no netting boats. the only one i can bring to mind is dominator and of course darlik(darlick) with his 16ft longline and 500 meters of gear. PS dominator only fishes nets for about 3 or 4 months of the year

It must be nice to be in a position where you dont have a mortgage to pay and kids to feed i went to a consultation meeting with NESFC and DEFRA 2 weeks ago and they cannot say which measures they have put in place have had what effect, 85mm to 87 in 2000 and thousands of berried hen lobsters "V" notched and returned to the sea. They also state the fisherie is in a healthy state with more juvenile lobsters on the grounds than ever recorded

In this area that makes for a 45%cut in catches How would you like a 45% pay cut
