  1. http://www.tipsninja.com/restore-file-transfer-status-window-ubuntu/
  2. Doesnt sound right ive always had a progress bar when copying... Just a thought, the icons on the desktops side bar groups windows together there should he something highlighted there that looks like a folder hover over it or use scroll wheel to see them. Usually a small progress bar (green) on the folder icon in the side bar too. Can also use alt+tab like on windows to switch between running applications
  3. Arrows indicate links (shortcuts) Id go to the drive and look for the windows user folder instead of the entire drive and right click and "copy" and then right click and "plaste" in the usb storage drive (drag and drop doesnt always work for me) there will he a progress window popup. Its probably copied and pasted the shortcut that fast you didnt notice it
  4. The drive not showing up in ubuntu is because of windows hybrid boot. You can load up windows and shut it down by using: shift + click shutdown (proper full shutdown not some hybernation half shutdown) More details here: http://www.howtogeek.com/236807/how-to-mount-your-windows-10-or-8-system-drive-on-linux/ You can then atleast access the drive ubuntus quite cool isnt it put it on a bootable usb drive instead of dvd so you can save things. Windows has a hard.time seeing linux drives so theres a +1
  5. I partialy blame a lot of the websites for shed loads of bloat calling javascripts from all over the place to do something fancy and hip that really no one gives a crap about. I mean do you really need to add 10 lines of code and call a javascript file from google just to display text with a font thats unique when it can be done with one line of css and a local font file on your own server. wtf is that all about! Modern day coding is going to shite with razzle dazzle before performance and usability. Kids these days.......
  6. Used to take too much but over the years ive managed to wittle my gear down a good bit. If i fancy a no fuss session for roach or perch on the canal i can get away with most of my terminal tackle into 2 glasses cases. It limits float selection (length) but i manage alright, insert wagglers are good for it even better is using a whip. My pike fishing used to be realy bad so I got a rod holdall for 3 made up rods which has helped quite considerably with regards to the weight hanging off my back (reels were a nightmare, needing a much bigger bag) the stove also stays behind and was replaced by a flask so no more big bottles of water, teabags, milk, spoon, gas bottles. Tacklebox tools and some munchies all go in a small rucksack handmedown (or is that up?) school bag from my nephew. Feels far better than my huge wychwood rucksack.
  7. you need to rough it up a bit before wiping or it just skites off
  8. I mentioned ages ago about it when we were gettig error messages and i still believe it to be a simple case of editing the sites config to point to the correct upload directory. I doubt john has the moderatir permission to do such a thing. Perhaps newt can ?
  9. you misunderstand. Herbal remedies and homeopathy aint really the same thing. Medicines come from a lot of herbs they have their uses. The whole idea as far as i understand it with homeopathy remedies are crazy shite like taking those herbs diluting them to the point of non existance and saying it works so no, cory is spot on.
  10. Japanese/chinese tourists can seem an odd bunch at times. I remember andy macfarlane telling me about the time on lomond a bus load of them just arrived behind him he gets a run off a pike and instead of taking an interest in him playing a big pike they surrounded the bite alarm to take photos of it
  11. Cant answer the libre office questions sorry but i suspect it will do all you ask. Its a good bit of kit. As for linux whats the models of the gear you cant get working. Its moved on a lot since years ago but its becoming a lot more popular and can only get better. Everything on my computer worked flawlessly with out the box ubuntu My only suggestion is boot up a live usb and give it a go you may be surprised. Im going to give mint a shot at some point. I love the simplicity of it tbh tabbed file browser (like browser tabs) was such a huge game changer for me. Everythig was neat and tidy my work flow increased too when.it came to web and graphic design when i need several windows open at the same time. MS just felt like unorganised chaos in comparison.
  12. You make a good point on ubuntu spying as they did introduce an amazon thing that sent your search (internet and local file/software search) easily "perminently" disabled. They have caved to pressure and is either off by default or completely removed in the latest versions. Also have to keep in mind linux is open source so some clever cloggs can spot any dodgy goings on in the code and be removed from the os very easily and the masses informed. As for your spreadsheets look at libre office for both windows and linux great software and its free opens all the ms orifice extensions. I ysed the spreadsheets from time to time and not seen any significant difference from excel. I wear my tinfoil hat with pride mate i have one here for you too but i fear by the time you see the light i will no longer partake in this crazy shite storm. If it wasnt for the people on the pit relying on my IT skills and the fisberies facebook page for keeping in touch with my members id be long gone from the net. Chesters, not here. Only a single app (tomtom) has ever been downloaded to this phone and doesnt have any store or accounts on it with nearly all the rubbsh removed that can be. As soon as i can root it and install cyanogen the better but its an old phone and not holding my breath for a port of it.
  13. Why do you allow this crap! Dont you find it very odd that the settings to prevent the spying get overwritten with some updates and theres not much you can do to stop it. Cant believe you trust such an OS.
  14. I did ? Doesnt sound like me. Windows 8 is crapware too. Windows 7 is the daddy, probably the last good version of windows to ever be created.
  15. Dont do it Ken! JUST SAY NO! their tactics for installing this piece of crapware is nothing short of malware. got a call out to an office ive done a few IT jobs for and wasnt realy surprised that win10 installed to all their machines even though they had said no lots of times. the one that got them was the one where the red X doesnt close and cancel like its meant to but takes that as "oh ok so you do want to install win10 ill just do that silently and scare the crap out of you when you come in to work on monday and nothing works" its shocking but that wasnt really why I was at the office (wanted 1 new pc setup) although it did give me a chance to check out this malware. all i can say is, terrible. it took me a while to find the address bar on the browser, like aye wtf! couldnt find the damn address bar. thats a massive fail, I couldnt realy distinguish buttons from the background either. theres more to this win10 than microsfts feeling generous. Do you think they will give full refunds of windows 7 now that they have effectivly taken it away from you. I seen a US woman was awarded $10,000 in small claims court because it installed without her permission basicially screwing up her business. One day you will all say, that crazy tinfoil hat wearing haggis muncher was right all along.
  16. While I would love to rub her face right in it for the sharia law thing she isnt actually in favour of sharia law but mearly said that it benefited many british muslims. she launched an investigation in to sharia courts(they are not actual courts but might as well be with what goes on behind closed doors) and how they were being used against women for things like divorce, child custody, domestic violence etc. things that should be decided by UK courts/law. Now I dont proclaim to know everything about sharia law but surely you (May) cant cherry pick what you like and dont like. you only have one option shut the feckin lot of these so called courts down imprison/punish anyone trying to be a sharia judge or what ever the equivelent is.
  17. She was also the one that said many british muslims benefited from sharia law she seems to be a bit neural with regards to sharia courts in the uk.
  18. Oh hell no not treasonous May. Ive been through this on another forum. Shes a danger, a snake in the grass. You only need to look at her eant for snoopers charter v2 aka the IPB (investigatory powers bill) the right to spy and hack everyone in the uk without proper over sight from judges so its bulk collection and will be abused by those meant to protect it like the police do with their huge database on us. Be careful of her she is not all she seems to be. Shes playing us very well or shes the one being played either way its all very worrying that that coo might be the next pm.
  19. Im assuming you mean that 2nd referendum petition,Barry. Where did you hear about clicking on a link submits a vote thats news to me as i know it to have been a botnet/script ran on a proxy server to submit bogus signatures and executed by a few techies. The petition website has no proper way of confirming if the details given are true. Fake name, fake postcode and a throwaway email account. Bot enters details gives a valid postcode, petetion sends an email with a confirmation link then the bot clicks confirmation link, signature accepted. This can be done from anywhere in the world. The petition provides partial logs (json data. See the link on the petition page) it shows how many signatures from each country. I believe thats how it was revealed that something dodgy was going on. There was something like 2,000+ signatures from vatican city (maybe tens of thousands before it got wiped)
  20. money. Its usualy always about money. Not for us plebs though.
  21. But its not independence when you want to bend over to the eu instead. They are just calling it that to sway the votes of patriotic scots who think they will be getting actual independence. Better the devil you know imo. At least staying in the uk i can attempt to boot down the door of number 10. I dont even know whos door to smash in over in brussels. SNP are after something and true independence is not it. Theres a conspiracy in there somewhere ive just not found it yet.
  22. nope he's whats known as a stooge. I dont believe it for one minute someone can be so stupid. Now wheres that tinfoil hat!
  23. Regret, aye right. this is a shady tactic employed by our secretive overlord lizard people to get the vote ignored or get a second vote that can be then fixed. It's a trap!
