  1. depends what size Carp you're after and where you're fishing. you'll need a Freespool reel if you really want to get into carp fishing, and a strong carp rod. i think size 6 or 8 hooks are better for hair rigs than size 10. 12-15lb breaking strain line, ask in your local tackle shop for more detailed advise of what tackle to buy.
  2. She sounds nice!! hahaha I'm going on Sunday so i'll post my happenings on here thanks for the advice mate.
  3. nah the bags are only smallish, 5" by 2" (12.7cm x 5.1cm) thanks for the help.
  4. hi i have 2 questions... 1. i have recieved boilies this morning in the post, freshly made, it says to freeze them if not being used in the next couple of days, i'm using them on Sunday so i've put them in the freezer, how long do they need to defrost for before use? and can i refreeze them, also, is it neccessary to freeze them at all? 2. how do i attach a PVA bag to a rig? i've recieved a load of these aswell and i'm not sure how to use them. thanks for your help. 5. lately i'm using boilies and pellets more than ever. red maggots, bread, sweetcorn and van den eynde flavoured luncheon meats were probably my most commonly used until more recently when i moved on to Carp fishing. now i use boilies, pellets, hemp etc. all the time.
  6. entered, here's hoping!! i could do with pva bags!
  7. Hi all what are your favourite boilie flavours for carp fishing? at the minute i've got strawberry, tutti-frutti, scopex and plain fishmeal. only used the fishmeal ones so far though, only got the others today. what are your opinions?
  8. i take it you're not English then. he's a legendary football manager, the man that turned Liverpool Football Club from a 2nd division side to the most succesful club in British Football history.
  9. yeh that's a god one Paul! I fish a mixture of all 3 usually. sometimes just boilies and pellets with some groundbait.
  10. i think boilies are by far the most popular now, but that doesn't neccessarily mean it's the best, they're equally useful on different waters. oh and Dante, i prefer Bill Shankley's quote to the one in your sig.... "Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that." a lot of people think he just said "football isn't a matter of life or death, it's much more important than that." but they're far off. irrelivent, but as a Liverpool supporter i just like talking about Bill Shankly regardless!
  11. no, when i used the method i left it in for around 2 hours 2 hours with the open feeders 1 hour with the float and around 30 mins each time with the floaters.
  12. well i tried a number of methods today, without a lot of carp tackle i might add, which is the reason i used 14 hooks, they're the biggest i have until tomorrow morning, when i will get a load of decent carp tackle including braid hair rigs with size 8 hooks and a load of 14mm boilies etc. etc. I tried the method, blanked. I tried open ended feeders, blanked. I tried mixers off the top, blanked. I tried a float with 2 nuggets of corn and a pop-up, blanked. all in all, not a good days fishing. had a couple of small roach in the margins. I know a size 8-10lb Carp is a decent fish and will fight like crazy, they're not small, but they are smaller than the ones you regularly hear of on here. anyway, i'm going back tomorrow with all my new carp tackle and baits etc. got a load of safety clips coming in the morning aswell, and some pva string, should be ok tomorrow.
  13. thank for the response. i would use bigger boilies, but i have none left! i'm getting some delivered on Tuesday, i forgot it was bank holiday tomorrow and was expecting them in the morning! doh! i'm only using a size 14 hook with the smaller boilies as i'm not expecting too many big carp, maybe up to around 8-10lb is average. the tench and bream are more common in there, might try the boosted luncheon meat later on.
  14. Hi I'm going on a smallish lake tomorrow morning, the Carp are small, biggest around 12lbs i think, mostly commons with some mirror and some crucian, also has tench, pike, perch, roach and big bream. hoping to go for the common/mirror carp. i've got 8mm boilies, fishmeal pellets (6mm, 4mm, 1mm), sweetcorn, boosted luncheon meat, brown crumb and hempseed. i was planning to use a mix of the brown crumb, hemp, sweetcorn and smaller pellets in a method mix with either the boilies or sweetcorn hair rigged. what do you think?
  15. Excuse me, please don't cross your legs like that why? you could be squashing my supper bit rude i know!
  16. thanks for the info! big help. i was only going to use it on the lowest setting, no need to have it on full blast! i think i'll hear it ah well, i'm gonna try it out tomorrow, going for Crucian Carp and Tench in Newsham Park in Liverpool if i have any luck i'll post my story on here.
  17. Hi never used a bite alarm before but i would like to, i was given one recently, but i've only ever used either floats or quiver tips as indicators before... how do i use it, is it as simple as screwing it into my bank stick and putting the line on the roller?
  18. what do you guys make of these rubber hair rigs on ebay, simply put, it's a hair attachment made of rubber that simply fits onto the hook. i think they look usable...yet they seem to be a simple kimble. any thoughts? cgi.ebay.co.uk/15-Rubber-Hair-rigs-...1QQcmdZViewItem
  19. if you want ready made hair rigs, have a look on eBay i got 4 Fox 20lb Braid Hair Rigs with size 8 hooks and size 4 swivels in a Fox plastic box for £3
