  1. The sport has governing bodies??? Would help if they made themselves known other than the NFA i dont know any others , and you dont want to know what i think NFA is an acronyn for after meeting a few of them.
  2. Hi it sounds to me you might be fishing a set of lakes near clophill (maulden) You need to sink the line to keep it in place a few things to try are 1)treat the lin with washing up liquid to help it sink 2) 2 or 3 quick turns on the reel with the tip of the rod under water 3) try a backshot Also to help prevent , slow down drift fish 6inches over depth a put a cpl of no8's resting on the bottom Hope this helps Terry
  3. I just brought a camo 3 man dome tent from tesco cost £28 had 2 full size carp beds in it and still had space. could sit up in that easily enough aswell. Used it last weekend with a stiffish wind and it stood up to it well.
  4. cut them just above the knee and use them as stalking boots, a cross between wellies and waders also prevents you getting wet knees
  5. If your still short i'll come along, the kids can teach me.
  6. this might or might not help. http://www.mkaa.co.uk/share.htm
  7. skipping the obvious advantages that everyone else has mentioned about hook lenghts. the main reason for not using one is strength. 6 inches of 2lb line will break easier than 6ft purely due to the stretch of mono. i might be wrong but line breaking strain is calculated using a 1 meter length that will stretch a suprising amount before breaking. 6 inches of mono will break earlier with the same weight. If using the pole for carp fishing (not twenty pounders you usual comercial fish) i tend to fish about 6lbs straight through. but like the others for silvers i use a 12 oz hooklength merely for presentation rather than snap offs. i also like my hooklengths as long as i can get them often upto 3-4ft long were conditions allow
  8. My first choice is worm beware if there catalogue perch about though. then i switch to either corn or meat.
  9. Ok i fished Furzton for the first time From sat through to Sunday dinner. To say it was an eventful session would be an understatement. arrived at the lake at around midday and chose a peg where i'd be fishing into the warm brease. There are a cpl of ""anglers"" occupying pegs just along the bank from me who you'll here much more about. got everything set up but was aware there where a lot of people around. Then it happened I'm near the MK bowl Take THat are playing tonight and i'm hearuing the sound checks. Over the next few hours i would estimate several Thousand people are now milling around the lake waiting for the concert to start. Families , groups of boys, girls some having BBQs others picnicing and lots of you caught owt? At this point i'd had one bream about 4lb with the biggest audience i've ever had watching me (bob nudd eat ya heart out) The night progresses and the drinks start flowing theres as many in the park as there is in the stadium and people are now getting drunk including the Two anglers bivvied next to me who decide to spend there time chatting up the girls (these guys are as old as me) rather than fish. At about 11 pm a fight breaks out between these guys and another cpl of guys (accused one of the drunk anlers of chatting up his 14 yr old daughter) next thing the two anglers are now weilding a baseball bat and a golf club going after these guys who have dissapeared into the crowd. After an hour they come back one is totally covered in blood (i forgot to mention they had an 8yr old boy with them that i seemed to be teaching to fish) soon after the police turn up the one covered in blood hides leaving his mate with the son facing the police on his own. After about 30 mins the confiscate the golf club and let the guy stay. The other guy returns about 30 mins later goes into his bivvy and peace of sorts returns. Its about 1.30 am and there seems to still be hundreds of people milling around. I recline back into my own bivvy and attempt to distance myself from the outside world. Until i awoken at 3am by some guy asking if i've caught anything (i now know he was looking for the other angler who had gone after him with the baseball bat and was checking if it was me )realising it wasnt me they realised whio it was and set about him whilst he was still in his bivvy (his mate with kid cowered in his own bivvy the whole time which was probably better for the sake of his kid)next thing the angler has dived into the lake and is swimming across to the far side one guy starts demolishing his fishing gear the others go round to the other side of the lake to continue there exploits followed shortly by there mate (now there not in my vercinity i call the police on my mobile there were 8 of them one of me i aint stopping them or drawing attention to myself) the police show up again and patrol the lake as far as i'm aware thats the end. So i settle down for the night awoken at 5am by his mate askling if he could borrow my mobile and did i see what happened (i played dumb) he called someone said thanks and handed me back my phone. 15 mins later he asked to borrow it again then 15 mins after that. finally he gives me the outcome of his mate a few broken ribs apparentlysort of attempts to coax me to help him pack up his gear and drive him home (it did nt work) finally he packs up and goes. Some how inbetween all this i managed to catch 3 bream and several decent roach. But i wont be in a hurry to to return.
  10. This is my first season with MKAA so sort of fishing blind at the moment. Probably take a cpl of season and many hours to crack it. I'll be on furzton somewhere from about 2pm tomoz through to sunday lunch.
  11. Plan on doing a night trip for the bream anyone know the water enough to point me to the best pegs and baits i'll be feeder fishing two rod set up prefer if you know of featrures no more than 50 yds out (not planning on using a beach caster).
  12. Personally i find it sexist and racist asking for women and ethnic minorities. Open it to all budding anglers or dont bother.
  13. from experience if bream are near the surface there not feeding but watching them could give clear signs as to there patrol route.you might get the odd one if your lucky. so lets be optiomistic, set your float with next to no shot down the lne (say a no 10 12 inches from hook just to stop tangles) my bait of choice would be pinkies or maggots(get some of the maggots as floaters) cast and keep firing 6-8 maggots at the float continuosly until it cocks. then recast and repeat firing maggots. best way i know of getting fish feeding up in the water. depth really depends how deep they start feeding at but normally i start at about 3ft ps. to get maggots to float get a few and let them wriggle about in about 1/8inch of water (3mm metric) they will become floaters or semi bouyant after about 30 mins (another good reason for dust shot down the line) beware though they will start climbing once wet. to stop them wriggling away get an old margerine tub and cut the lid leaving a rim of about 3/4 of an inch from the edge of the tub. and soak the maggots in this.
  14. club i was with had 1500 members . you do the maths but thats a few quid when you add paper ink postage etc just to remind peopple what they should know
  15. I moved to daventry last year before this i lived in luton which had about 5 seperate clubs i could join with open membership just by walking into a tackleshop. The thing i've noticed since moving is there seem less clubs around open to all with there own waters. Loads of carp puddles about but few clubs catering for the everyday angler wanting to go out and catch bream, tench , roach etc is this happening country wide and do others think commercial carp pools are slowly killing off the natural waters. to which point i cant decide where to fish on june 16th and am thinking of joining my old club and travelling an hour each time i want to fish.
  16. went to cavan last year at end of may but in the cootehill area . Basically caught nowt woerth mentioning and the anglers i met and spoke to where all getting they same degree of success.
  17. sounds stupid but when its taken the bait. Carp are very good at blowing it back out if they feel something suspiscious. so strike as soon as you can and accept the few missed strikes from string to early.
  18. if you walk the up the common to new rd (its a bloomin long walk especially with full match gear) swims to look out for A frame (fence on far bank forms an A shap just before the redundant footbridge) the gully (beyond this foot bridge just before the bend to the left ) 2nd plantation you'll walk along it looking for fish and see nothing for most of the ivel but most of the far banks are undercut and the fish sit under these. also the carpark has a deep hole in it were the fish sit other than that theres a lot of walking and pinpointing every peg would be impossible with words alone.
  19. Hello as an ex Vauxhall Commitee member i know what your after. As a club member you can fish from the back meadows at biggleswade right up to sandy new road. Theres a small section down stream of girtford bridge towards and including the weir thats out of bounds (belongs to another club) Apart from that go get them chub. Word of advice if fishing Girtford dont know whats its like now but they were getting a spate of car thefts a few years ago. At girtford the first bit between the bridge and the fence (about 75 yds) is totally free.
  20. I have just returned from a camping holiday in france. I can safely say the citronella candles are a waste of space. I've been bitten from head to toe literally and found nothing to keep the buggers off me. I reckon i could have been wearing full kevlar body armour and they would still have bitten through it. On a brighter note i itch in so many places i cant even be bothered to scratch now so the cure to stop scratvhing is get bit more.
  21. Its not just the aylesbury arm a lot of the canal in that area is getting affected by car thieves, Slapton, grove,Brownlow bridge seems we have to consider car safety before catching fish in a lot of circumstances nowadays. i can make a list as long as my arm of places i wont fish because either my car or others have been broken into or stolen. Hang every car thief from the nearest tree would be my answer (by the testicles )
  22. Admit it folks everyone of us thats had a pond in the garden with ornamental goldfish in has set up a whip of some sort and fished it. I'll hold my hands up to it gnome appearance and all.
  23. Been about 2 yrs since i fished that area regulary (i moved) marsworth the carp climb your rod in the sumer best early morning and evenings to avoid the boat traffic. Aylesbury arm seemed quite poor by comparison and i never did find a section of the wendover arm that was fishable.
  24. i would have use as fine a float tip as i could see dotted right down so the slightest touch would drag it under i particulary like some cane tipped floats i brought years ago but havnt seen them since.either that or just recast every five 10 mins regardless, and tolerated the sucked maggots.
  25. i'm about 20 miles north of mk now in daventry if your interested.
