  1. where this army surplus store that sells these
  2. John i also note you forgot one of these. Suerly the cosiest thing to snuggle up to on a cold night in a bivvie
  3. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Camouflage-Double-...9786&sr=8-9 add an appropriate tggage quilt to it and your sorted for all conditions.
  4. In truth wouldnt we do our sport a world of good in the eyes of the antis if it was compulsory to have a fish handling license for all speices not just pike. Obviously the license would cover unhooking predators , dressing wounds on fish. Taking scale samples . Bit like passing your driving test no license no fishing period.
  5. Personally although i rarely pike fish i would welcome a bit of tuition on how to unhook pike. I know the theory and have a rough idea what i'm doing , but i wouldnt say i was proficient. Maybe i should go catch more pike and practise. But at present i prefer pike fishing with others that could show me here i'm going wrong in certain situations.
  6. A couple of others i found http://www.xs-party.co.uk/products/xs0633s...ing-tent--.html http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/membershop/detail.asp?id=149394 http://www.supaprice.co.uk/p/result.jsp?ga...camouflage+tent all in camo , didnt find real tree though
  7. I dont keep a set in the tackle box just the bedroom .
  8. Quick thought on the gag issue. From his description i dont think it is a gag. I suspect it could be one of those mouth gripper things the americans use to hold fish by rather than our old fashion spring loaded gags. Will now duck quickly.
  9. With it being this mild i'm thinking about having a crack at a lake. Bearing in mind it will be an unknown because usually i would only be sea fishing or river fishing at this time of year. I wonder if the fish are as confused as the foliage and think we just skipped winter and its now spring?.
  10. Fish ins i'd like to try. Fly fishing anywhere. I've done sea fishing and coarse fishing for years but i've never even cast a fly rod let alone fished that style. Catfish ( having addequate equipment might be a problem) Something i guess we could organise although this might be classed as swearing is an Anglers Net match on a commercial somewhere in the midlands i guess would be pretty central. A lot depends on things people would like to try. Some of us may know a great venue for something but might think others wont be interested. I guess if we dont say no-one knows.
  11. On some venues its almost impossible not to catch them. Believe me i've tried lol others you wont see an eel. It depends where down south.
  12. iImight be strange but i only fish day ticket venues for something different to my usual fishing. Examples are the river itchen to catch grayling , The fenland drains to target zander for a few days. I'd consider a catfish session as i've never fished for them. Something like that. I have access to rivers , lakes and even canals on club books. And can fairly much target most species at a given time. Also the odd day ticket i fish tend to be miles away so its more likely to be a once a season session if i was going to fish them more frequently i'd join the controlling club where posible.
  13. The thing i notice is you only come on here when you want something. I've never seen you offer advice to anyone, typical example is the thread a cpl below asking for advice on eel rigs etc. Nothing from you but i would expect you to be able to help. Personally i try my hardest to avoid eels doesnt mean i dont want them to exist , i just dont want to catch them. To go on the offensive straight off is asking for trouble. And attempting to take the moral high ground only brings trouble.
  14. At the moment i'm a member or a syndicate around 150 miles away. We do have members that are closer to 300 miles from it though.
  15. i came across this stuff once on the ouse while fishing a match. took 45 mins for it all to float past during which we couldnt fish. Never did find out where it came from.
  16. I must be doing something wrong. In all my years of fishing apart from one rod i stood on i have never broken a rod either cheap or expensive. If your breaking rods i would look at your technique or wether your using balanced tackle.
  17. Personally i see this as one guy making a lot of fuss because he was told he couldnt park at his swim. There are many venues designed specifically for disabled anglers with tarmac paths barriers to prevent wheel chairs rolling in etc. I'm not against the disabled but why should any business fork out thousands of pounds just to accomodate the the odd person. That may or may not ever visit.
  18. Round one to the mythical pike. I went out this evening for acpl of hours working down the canal with a few plugs. I started by casting out fan style then moving 30 yds and doing the same again. Did this for most of the time without even a hint. ( using largish plugs) on the way back i trolled a mepps at walking pace at the bottom of the inside ledge. Did manage 2 perch one around 8oz the other just over the 1pound. Got back to the car just after dusk and pondering what to try next.
  19. My start to fishing this canal was in matches i know most of the guys that use to match fish it and a few that still do. To my knowledge none of us have encountered a pike. Its just common sense that tells me they must be there. Anderoo i've never seen anyone fish it for pike except one guy from eastern europe and he hadnt caught anything.
  20. The problem is that it is not unfished. Its fished frequently along its length by matchmen and carp anglers. Some of the sections are very prolific with bream and carp. We're not talking a northern canal where they expect to win a match with 3lb of fish most matches on a bad day require double figures.
  21. The rumours about cats have been kicking around for years. I had one guy telling me how he had loads of baby ones , turns out they were bullheads. I think a cpl got slipped in a long time ago from tiddenfoot pit in leighton buzzard. I can only state of one that i know was caught about 12 years ago. Seems strange i can vouch for a cat being caught but never a pike.
  22. Its the Luton AC sections i know best and like the bailiff said no-one ever fished for pike or zander. I cant believe there not there but its seems more daunting the more i think about it trying to locate them. It will definately be a roving approach but with little to no info to start with where to start is the big question. I know roughly where there food supply hole up at different times of year. So thats a starting point i guess. If they are there i expect a few biggies rather than jacks.
  23. There's lots perch i've caught them myself upto 2lb its just occured to me about the pike. This area of the grand union is very prolific. personally i've had 100lb bags of bream lots of roach gudgeon perch etc carp to over 20lb ,MKAA carp record was 34lb summat a fish from the canal. I've even had tench which on the GU is rare. I've just never seen a pike.
  24. The problem with the grand union is it very very rarely goes clear even in the depths of winter you'll still get narrow boats moving along its length. As for age Phone i've been fishing this canal on and off for over 30 years now. Its only common sense that tells me the predators must be there. But i have no proof having never seen or heard of a pike coming out of it in the 40 miles of it that i have fished in the past. So this is the real dilemma would i be flogging a dead horse. The only good news about the venue is the lack of crayfish so deadbaits could well work as i suspect the preds in there are likely to be scavengers.
  25. It occurs to me i've fished much of the Grand Union canal from Tring through to Just south of rugby all my fishing life. I know there must be pike and in the northern sections Zander but i have never even had a fish snatched at by a predator let alone seen one. Knowing they must be there even though never seeing one would you try to target them.
