Hi there Steve, If you want a paddle just tp get use to your new Yak when you get it try a run down exeter canal to the estary its a good 9 miles there and back with two pubs on the way and makes a good few hours out on flat calm water. Give me a shout if that is what you want to do and I will come along with you. ChrisW
  5. Hi Manrock, I am not aware of any Kayak Fishing courses but the Kayak center on Exeter Quayside will have information on local training or try the Brtish Canoe Union who will no doubt have some information for you in this area. When you get you Yak I am sure if you give a shout to local yak anglers to join a trip out you will be welcome. ChrisW (from Exeter)

    Still here

Hi Gilbo, Its been very quiet on here lately I think everybody is still asleep for the winter months. Hoe all is ok I hope to arrange another trip sometime but with a 1 year old daughter time is not often available. ChrisW
  7. Hi Guys, Just wondering if any of the South West Yak Anglers are still alive and kicking???????? Have not seen anybody much on the forum And while I remember HAVE A HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL and may you all have lots of Yaky pressies ChrisW
  8. Hi Chaz, I have a pair of the Jobe Boots which come with a neoprean sock already inside. In the summer months my feet were really warm and as for the colder weather all I do is to wear a pair of nylon socks as well, todate my feet have always kept warm and like yoursel no doubt if you feet get cold you can start to lose interest. I have a couple of good sites lined up for next years weekend trip all closer to home. I hope this message finds you well All the best ChrisW
  9. Hi Norton, Neoprean wristseals should stop any water running up your sleeves just be sure that they are not that tight as to make you feel uncomfortable, Im sure if you are planning to buy your suit from a shop they will advise you. As for the crate and access on the water it is case of being able to twisrt around to get to it or once you have enough confidence to sit side saddle on your Yak you can access that way. It is worth having a play in water that you can stand in with your Yak so you can practice moving around, sitting side saddle, sliding up to the bow to gain access to your front hatch and taking off and putting on the hatch, rocking your Yak so you get to know what point she will finally tip over at and getting back on your Yak once you are in the water. That way you will get to know your own abilities and the Yaks. Have fun and be safe ChrisW
  10. Hi Cannonfodder, Welcome to the madhouse, first of all may I say that you are in the right place to have all your questions answered. I myself am a ex Ilfracombe lad and know the shores well over there so please be very aware about the tides and currents on the North Coast even though it is very tempting to launch from the harbour and fish around Hillsbourgh and Capstone on a fine day they are alot of hidden dangers around there. If you are ever around the Torbay area it is always worth dropping a message on here as you will no doubt be joined by a couple of the local guys who will all be willing to have you tag along. ChrisW
  11. Hi Sheddy, Without going into personal choices I would say that £1000 will get you up and running with the basic items or if you shop carefully maybe a few extras. ChrisW
  12. Hi Karl, I have my fishfinder, battery and transducer virtualy on top of each other with no problems of interference at all. My transducer is fitted under the cup holder on my Prowler 15 which is just about central on the Yak. I have fitted the transducer in a bed of marine silicon and is still stuck solid where I put it after numerous loadings and unloadings from the roof of the car and many launches and landings. Hopes this helps ChrisW
  13. Hi Guys, Due to various reasons by the regulars the Ilracombe trip is cancelled but a couple of us will be fishing from Teighmouth instead. Anyone interested drop me a PM r message on here. Thanks ChrisW
  14. Hi all, The date for the Ilfracombe trip is the 22nd July. The high tide is going to be around the 11:30am mark. If you are interested in coming alon can you please let me know via this forum so i can contact you indivudally concerning times, meet ups if required and bait. Of course weather permitting as per usal but going by the Gorran Haven conditions it will need to be rough to put us off. All the best Chris
  15. Hi Jody, Try contacting Saddles and Paddles in Exeter on 01392 424241 or on their web site www.saddlepaddle.co.uk ChrisW
  16. Hi Simon, Check any charts you may have for that coast as there is a nasty rip tide always running up and down there which at times comes in very very close to the shore. You will be 1/2 miles down the coast before you know it. Anyway guys as for the date Im just waiting for this awful weather to calm down a little but I am looking around the middle/end of July. Chris
  17. Hi Steve, I have a green prowler15 which I bought as it came up cheap, I use a yellow paddle and a hi-vis PFD in red. The misses has told me several times that when she is sitting on the beach she can see e fine wih the jacket and the flash of my paddles. I certainly would not change the 15 its a great Yak. ChrisW
  18. Hi Guys, Musket bass are certaintly on a catch and release when undersize and agree with your opions on this subject but as always its down to the individual I personnally feel that unless you are going to eat the fish caught it goes back. Gilbo you should have no worries about the north coast and fishing Ilfracombe waters, as it is my childhood fishing grounds I know the area and where to stay close in which is going to be where the fishing will be taking place. As there seems to be a few of us interested in going its safety in numbers, and the weather always has the final say. There is sheltered fishing around the harbour area. Cheers for the info gra I will give you a ring nearer the time. Chris
  19. Hi all, Concerning the above, I have been having problems with my internet server so I am in the process of changing over. I will be right on the above trip as soon as I am on line on my own PC. I am looking for a midday high tide on a Sunday so if anybody has a North Devon tide timetable and have a preference for a date just leave a message here or contact me via my phone numbers for those who have them. Thanks Tight lines Chris
  20. Hi again all, I now have a few interested in ths trip so I am now looking for a nice high midday tide on a Sunday so the date will depend on that. Chris
  21. Hi Peter, OK keep an eye on this message, I will leave it for about a week to see how many are interested if any. Iflracombe is my old fishing grounds so I have a reasonable idea whats going on where depending on the weather. Chris
  22. Hi all, Great to see the reports coming in and pictures of your trips well done to all. I am thinking of planning a trip over to Ilfracombe (my home town) to fish the waters there, anyone interested??? N date set as yet no point until I know how many may be interested. I was over at Beer yesterday (Saturday 9th) and saw two guys out on Yaks fishing, didnt manage to catch them when they came in, was it you? it would be good to meet up. Tight lines to you all, ChrisW
  23. Hi mate, Nice report. I would of loved to been there with my camera and rods its not a sight you often see never mind get on top of. Have you got any pictures. ChrisW
  24. I will be printing off some copies of the sunrise photo and have a couple of more at slightly differant angles if anybody would like to have a copy. Chris
  25. Well heres my report of last weekend and I will try to keep it short............... We arrived at the campsite on Friday afternoon and went down to Gorran beach to survey the scene Which of course was hard work and we had to do the fish and chip thing On the Saturday morning we were up nice and early and was met by a sunrise which just says it all we all rigged up and were off We all caught on the Saturday as you can see with fish varying in weight from a few onces to just under 5lb. Aftr a good days fishing which I belive everybody enjoyed we had got rather hungry so we had a good fish supper On the Sunday we decided to try on an estary (which the name escapes me). We arrived at the launch site and it all looked very promising. But the day had a few surpries in store for us in that we had no fish at all but started out with nice calm conditions, the wind blew up bringing along light showers, heavier showers, thunder and lighting then hail. We certainly had some fun fishing and getting back to the launch site On the Monday the wind had blown up ever more so we decided to do a little shore fishing for half a day then packed up and came home. Can I say a big Thank You to those who turned up and to those who help sort out the bait, you know who you are. ChrisW
