Thanks for helping to carry my stuff, and also the loan of the hat Chris, think without the latter I would have passed out on the walk back!! This bloddy cancer is slowly eating me up, just hope all the drugs keep me going for at least one more winter of fishing with you on the Kennet, Itchen and Frome!!
-
Cracking grayling from a lower section of the Kennet - well done!
-
Where are the pics of the other perch?
Top angling you two!!
-
Thanks Rusty, comments always much appreciated, and they help with the frame of mind!
Don't forget the backstream on the Whitehouse stretch, although I think that may be more of a winter venue, certainly might be tricky at the moment with all the undergrowth, and low water levels!

Excellent writeup Rusty !
One major error in your opening day setup.....you have an open bottle of beer.....in direct sunlight !!
Can't make out the label, but whatever it was, it should have been in a cooler location
-
As you say, the "new unhooking method"....successful removal of the hook from the fish, however we are left with a hook completely unusable ever again
I like that action pic of you playing the perch!

Cheers Ken

Sounds like it still has some quality rudd John
I would guess a weed-rake might be a very good option for this lake, perhaps doing that the evening before a visit, and bait the cleared area with whatever you have got available, just make sure it is deeper than the swans can reach !

Thanks very much for your comments Rusty I look forwards to fishing with you, its been a while !
-
It is a lovely lake Rusty, one I haven't fished nearly as often as I should have....last time was at least a couple of seasons ago. Then, I was plagued by rudd, but I noticed someone post on the NAA forum the other day that they hadn't had a single one on their last visit. It does seem to be a bit of an issue on all the NAA lakes at the moment, perhaps down to the cool spring we have had?
-
Lovely roach John, well done, it looks like you are starting to get to grips with this lake!
-
Thank you very much both for your kind comments....appreciated.
-
Cracker Rusty, well done!!
-
Nice carp Rusty, and on a bit of stick as well....good result
Out of interest, it's not clear on the pic, did it have mouth damage? I fished the same lake four days before you, had six carp, all had damaged mouths of varying degrees. I've seen this on commercials, but not so much on club lakes before.

Thank you both to Rusty and Ken - glad you liked it!
Ken, if you were in the layby that I think you may have been in, these fish came from about 100 yards away
-
This is fish over a pound only though isn't it?
Be interesting if you then added your total numbers of perch caught to see if the overall average size is on the increase, but on the other hand the sub-pound fish could be 2oz or 15oz....so not much help....forget that idea

Thanks Rusty

He isn't allowed to tell you John because if Jaq read the answer CP would be sleeping in the garage :-SS

Looks a damn sight better than it did yesterday....tried fishing there but the rod was almost being blown out of my hands, so windy it was scary at times! And getting back through the A34 underpass was a tad nerve-wracking, especially when the water came over the bonnet...don't think my Focus works too well as a submarine!
-
That little pool would look a lot more inviting if it had a bit of flow in it,,,,lets hope we get chance for a return visit when there is a bit more water in it.
CP, how come the last photo is an external link?

You might get more interest with a deadbait than a plug, but I'd say your best bet would be a livebait. Always a tricky one on a venue that has a lot of prey fish. I've got a pike resident in the stream at the bottom of the garden, along with plenty of food fish and it consistently turns its snout up when I run a plug or lure past it. It will occassionally sniff at a deadbait, but a live bait, it goes mental to and grab it.....the same on the Blackwater I suspect.
-
Another excellent write up from you Ken, and a smashing perch, no doubt you will be back for another try at it, and remember to weigh it next time!!
I think if you fish the Blackwater you have to just accept that a pike will turn up at some point, the river seems to be prolific with them at times. I've had them try and snatch the float on retrieve on a few occasions and really must have a proper go for them one day.....maybe this winter.

Cracking fish, and cracking pics as usual Tom

Cheers Rusty, I liked the colours as well, and I tried very hard to get the standard Plumb plastic bag out of shot!!
