Norrie, its not like the damage and scars I have seen on pike, which more like slashes. Does look like something took a chunk out, rather than a wound from a narrow beak. Almost looks as if an otter had been munching away and the fish managed to escape.

Hiya, I did think it might be an Otter or an Osprey, but the concesus of opinion in our club thinks its a Cormorant, there are a couple on the loch. There are also a pair of Ospreys. To be honest, the cormorant damage I have seen before, is a stab wound through the fish.

ive seen bass floating on the surface near manacles a few of times, always after having spotted several cormorants pack hunting. they are invariably wounded in the gills, an obvious weak spot. i plump for osprey as it looks like a tear.

thats more like a Heron, corms grab the fish ,if the fish is lucky (more lucky if secondry infection isnt caught) its left with a pair of scars each side of the body ,if it has thin scars or marks and a hole its escaped from a Heron when it flips the fish up to catch it in its beak for swollowing, err usually
