GUYS!!!! Light Pipe is when you can see the light on your bite alarm from any angle as long as its within 180 degrees. Get with it!!! I used to have bleepers that didnt have it and in the daytime is was very difficult to see which one id just had a line bite or take on. Its a necesity for me.

I can't ever say I've had such a problem - but then on my waters I'm able to position my rods to avoid this.

With the GFs the blue LED is so bright it's visible in any situation except with the sun directly behind - but then I doubt that you'd be able to see any LED!

Hi Ethan, Do you not use bite indicaters? (swingers, danglers, bobbins, or even a split boilie trapped on the line close to the reel is a good makeshift) I usually have the alarm tones set from left to right = low to high. I dont see much point in led's especially in the daylight hours.

regards ..Kev

Common 40:

I too set the tones up in the same way and in the same order - just like a piano.

However, I do use the LEDs as well, especially at night when I'm half asleep.

Last year though I bought an extension box to make sure I didn't miss any takes. This has different colour lights for each rod so it's easy to see which one there's been a take on. I can also turn this to any angle without affecting the rods.

I have the Micron MX's and they have been great. Dont think you can get these with different coloured led,s so no good if you are a 'tackletart' It does have 2 sensitivity settings, tone control and volume comtrol.

IYCF magazine has just done a review on bite alarms with the Micron mmx coming in as the winner. This alarm is the same as the mx but instead of having 2 sensitivity settings it is adjustable.Price is about £50 for the MMX. Got my MX's for about £30 with free battery.

hope this helps.

Something to ask yourself - if an alarm develops a fault (either component failure or due to accidental damage), will it be repairable? Will spares etc. still be available two, three or perhaps five or more years down the line? If the answer is "Yes", then providing you get an alarm that reliably fufils its function, it doesn't matter overmuch which one you get.

Personally, I'm a fan of Delkims. Mine are basic models from the very first production run. They've not missed a beat in many years of hard use, and should anything go wrong with one of them I know I can rely on good service/repair backup.

I have GFs which I think are fine

Re the Lightpipe being necessary to see which rod the take was on, wouldn't that be the one where the line is screaming off the baitrunner, or have I been dreaming again

Cheers

Jim makes a good point that is relevant for all tackle.I used Optonics for years then had them converted by Delkim. Both the after sales/conversion services were excellent.Replaced them with alarms from Fox a few years back. Not had any reason to find out yet (which in all fairness and most strange comming from me is I suppose a feather in Fox's cap!) what the after sales is like.Anyone had any experience of this?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
