what would you use on a lure to give it that hard glossy finish.

ive been looking in to some sort of spray on resin but cant realy find anything. just one product from the us but wont ship overseas because its a hazardous material.

also what is the best way to attach the rings for attaching hooks and trace. when i modified an old lure one of the rings was screwed into some sort of hard plastic and then finaly into some lead where as the other was simply screwed in to the wood.

Hard glossy finish - 2 part epoxy, araldite is best. Don't get the 90 second one, get the 5 minute one. And not the precision one either, takes too long to set. Mix epoxy and paint onto lure, then turn lure slowly ensuring even coverage for 5 minutes until epoxy sets.

Alternatively, I think a few layers of model aircraft dope would work wonderfully, and it smells great too, downside is it takes longer to set.

Hooks - dip them in araldite before screwing in. Actually I would screw them in 90% home, remove, dip in araldire, then screw in 100% home. This negates the prospect of the act of screwing in removing all the araldite..

A few lures I made years ago used piano wire straight through the lure. I basically made two half lures and laminated the wire into the middle for super-strength, but the screw -in method with araldite will work fine.

As I bit into the nectarine, it had a crisp juiciness about it that was very pleasurable - until I realized it wasn't a nectarine at all, but A HUMAN HEAD!

that was my thoughts at first regarding the finish, seems to gloopy though i prefer the idea of a spray on one so its as smooth as glass i hope

At risk of putting you off by letting you see what some people can produce in their basements, the answer to pretty much every question that you can think of and many more that you can't can be found here.

Some of them really do live up to the thread title "Plug Porn".

I use a good quality yacht varnish on any wooden item that ends up in water. It takes an age to harden but it is easy to touch up, gleams like diamonds and smells quite pleasant too :)

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Yup, that would do the trick.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Araldite starts off "gloopy" but goes liquid and clear when you heat it up with a hairdryer. Careful though because it also speeds up the setting time, it's definitely a one chance job! Somehow you need to rotate the job until it sets or the epoxy will all run off in a lump.

cheers lads.

araldite isnt an option its a lot of hard work trying to get it to look professional without run offs.

a few build ups from the spray on stuff should look far better and smoother
