BOB NUDD retires from internationals

I have heard that four times world champion Bob Nudd has announced his retirement from the international scene. :(

What a great loss for drennan team england, he has been there, done that, seen it all and just about won it all! :)

Dont know the reason why he is retireing (did not fish in European champs last week) but could be down to work load/pressue, Browning, Van den eye, anging times, improve your course fishing, tv/video work, web site, match circuit (festivals, opens, practice etc) and other things he is involved with.

Could be that he feels it is time to slow down and enjoy a spot of pleasure fishing!

Whatever your reasons thanks for putting fishing back on the map and helping make team england the best in the world, good luck for the future, I bet you still draw the biggest crowd wherever you fish.

he was on about this in his column in the News of the World yesterday...said he'd received the call he hoped he would never get...the one telling him he hadn't made the team....first time in 20 years apparently

He has fished competitively at the top level for many many years; he should not feel bad that he didn’t get picked this time. He is a great ambassador for the sport and a great teacher for those taking up fishing.

I've been lucky enough to meet Bob quite a few times, both in the tackle trade and on the bankside.

Bob is often described as a true gentleman, and that sums him up nicely. In this respect he's very like the late Peter Stone. Both givers, both superb anglers.

I well remember Bob giving up one of his rare free evenings to attend a Perchfishers dinner and present some prizes for a charity match that the club had organised. Bob was very impressed that a youngster had beaten senior match anglers!

Nuddy fished himself in some of the matches I used to run at Wingham. Although the type of venue wasn't his normal stamping ground he showed his class on more than one ocassion.

I ran the matches as rovers but, to add spice, if you moved swims you had to empty your net and start again from scratch. In one match Bob moved swims with half an hour to go - and still almost won!
