"Solar" choice of the Tackle Tart :D

Must admit I use solar bobbins on chains and think they are the business, great bite detection and they look smart, nice union jacks on stainless steel, Quality :D

Maybe it's just me then, but I prefer my Fox micro swingers to anything else i've tried, and yes I admit i've got some blue Nash hangers with stainless steel fitings and bicycle type chains. :o

I just get on better with the micro swingers, perhaps they just suit the way I fish.

Eat right, stay fit, die anyway.

I prefer to use Solar, or my own stainless hangers, with a very light chain in calm conditions or the Bicycle Chain in windy conditions.

Those Bicycle Chain thingies are a good idea, it must have been a clever bloke who thought up that idea!....Hmmmmmm

I'm with Ant, fox micro swingers, both blue, both with green solar isotopes to one red and one green led GFs alarms that also have matching bobbins that clip nicley on to the swingers.

I'm not in the least bit concerned with what my gear looks like. It's used for catching fish, nothing else. Therefore, every item, including indicators, has to be the most functional I can buy or make.

Both swingers and hangers (i.e. bobbins) have their pros and cons, and which I use depends on the circumstances. Indeed, I may use both during the same session, or even a different one on each rod. (I can see those who're more concerned with looks than catching fish throwing up their hands in horror at the last statement!!)

For instance, if I'm getting or expecting line bites I prefer bobbins on a long drop, at least 18 inches and preferably a lot more. In this situation a swinger isn't long enough to always show the difference between a line bite and a run. Neither does a short drop on a bobbin show dropbacks at all well.

However most of the time I prefer swingers, and to show dropbacks properly long arm models.

What I especially like about swingers is the ability to vary the load quickly and easily. This enables the line to be as tight or as loose as I want it, and copes with varying amounts of drift and also different distances. Swingers are also much more windproof than bobbins, although there's a lot you can do to minimise this.

My bobbins are home-made, whilst the swingers I favour are modified Fox Pike Swingers, that I use whichever species I'm targeting. See my review at http://anglers-net.co.uk/reviews/fox-pike-swinger.htm
