One very good change to make, is to lighten up your tackle.

 

Providing you don't have any snag problems, try dropping your mainline to 8lb & either 6 or 8lb for your hooklengths.

 

Hookwise, 10's or 12's are fantastic for pricking half interested fish.

 

Baitwise, tiny cubes of Luncheon meat are very reliable. I've found popping them up more effective than on the bottam & it keeps that delicate hook out of bother.

 

I'm assuming that you have experience in playing good sized Carp because you can't bully fish with this setup.

 

I might just add that I don't find it necessary until we hit the real winter, the back-end of December through to end of February.

Maybe UK angling quits for the winter but in other places, that is not the case.

no what i mean is ,in winter water freezes so it gets hard and stops fishing stuff going through it, the water even when its nearly hard freezes in the rod rings and stops fishing stuff getting as far as the water.hence if you can fish its not winter.

ice fishing isnt really done in the U.K. as it never really being a temperate zone gets cold
