Targeting Other Fish

Recommended Posts

Do any of you target other fish when carp fishing? Wouldn't it be nice, sometimes, to be able to catch tench on the appropriate gear without the chance of catching a carp and losing it? Anyone found a bait or technique to single out other fish on lighter gear whilst carp fishing? Or is it carp or bust? :D

Most of the fish I catch when carp fishing cannot really be described as carp.... For eg, my PB 'golden' tench (about 7lb or so) came out on a hair-rigged chocolate boilie when method fishing for carp. I've also caught perch up to about 2.5lb on a Medusae, and almost netted a pike that decided to take a hair-rigged lump of cheddar as I was reeling in - unfortunately I don't often use wire traces when carp fishing, and those teeth are a bit sharp....

i did it the other day, on a small syndicate lake(2 acres max) I fish I was told there were some big eels in it. So out went the dead baits on one rod and after a quiet night I had a mental 1st hour of light where I landed 15 eels to 3.5lb. Not bad, good fun and a smelly net. Also while catching bait for the eels I had roach and rudd over 1lb. These got to over 2 so I will deffo be targeting these again. I was also told that the perch in there go to 5lb now that has to be worth a shout. They are the only predators (apart from the eels) in there and the margins are black with silverfish, so I can believe it. I can see the lures coming out soon.

Oh and the carp fight like the clappers and go to 30.

I think I've found another dream lake

I fished Bury Hill Fishery yesterday (26th June) and all I caught all day was Tench ranging fron 5lb to 8lb. All took on 14mm Trout Pellet fished over micro pellet and sweetcorn/hemp mix. It was wonderful. Considering the carp were just sunbathing. I don't know who had the best tan at the end of the day, me or the carp. :D:D:D
