10-06 record Wingham tench

Anderoo's 11lb Wingham bream at the weekend make me rethink my baiting pattern. This came to a spot with a small amount of concentrated feed. So on Monday, rather than scatter groundbait over a wide area, I opted for several small areas lightly baited with brown crumb/boilie crumb containing chopped boilies/corn.

Whether this made any difference I don't know. However the result was a new Wingham record at 10-06.

What was interesting about this fish was that it was only 22ins long! However it was incredibly broad, plus also contained a fair amount of spawn. I'd like to meet it when it's grown to 25ins, the length of a 9-04 I had last week!

As can be seen from the light green/yellow colour this was one of the young fish, so has plenty of growing still to do. Somehow I don't think it'll stay a venue record for long!

P.S. Thanks for the photos, Glyn.

It's nearly as big as the bream!

Congratulations Steve, a really superb result  What a beautiful specimen too.

As it was clearly all down to the new improved baiting strategy(tm) I am looking forward to receiving my gratis ticket for 2010/11 - thanks in advance :D

Well done Steve  I'll be surprised if the new record will last too long though, but the more often it's broken the better !

Funny that three of the five who've already posted on this thread have held the Lake Tench record at one point. Unfortunately there's another AN'er who's no longer with us who also held it once.

Congratulations Steve, I'm really looking forward to the SG fish in now!

It does look short in length for its weight, one that I caught last weekend had a huge frame but weighed 8lb 6oz. I was certain it was a nine so checked it on another set of scales but no - 8lb 6!

I timed my big tench session wrong, I was too early in the year - but I too am looking forward to next weekend!

By the way, a little birdie tells me that Glyn has had his first double at 10lb 5oz - nice one Glyn B)

It makes you wonder what will get caught in the next few weeks...
