Sorry chevin, missed the WW1 reference but I hardly think PROSSER, Joseph [migrated by Gavin Hunter] 1855; Sebastopol, Crimea is his grandfather. Great great grandfather maybe

Of the nine VCs at Edinburgh Castle, these two only relate to WW1

The others relate to either WW1, Korea or the 19th C.

There are nine VCs displayed in Edinburgh Castle, two of which are relevant. George Thompson won his during WW2 and William Speakman won his in Korea. Details are here

But pumphypete said that his grandfather won his in WW I which makes all of those on display at Edinburgh Castle relevant surely? Or have I got the wrong address?

My grandfather was born illigitimate in 1858!

His grandfather, on his mother's side, was born in 1791.

We think his father was Edward V11.

If so, I think that makes my grandfather a first cousin to the last Czarina, who is about to be made a Saint. Kinda makes you wonder about religion, doesn't it?

My Great Aunt, Cinderella - wife of Belcher, sister of Hezekiah(oh yes, my lot had some happ'nin' names back in the day )- never recovered from the air raids of WW2.

Years after hostilities ended, whenever a passenger jet flew overhead, Aunt Cinderella would gather any nearby children to her skirts and leap into the nearest nettle patch, after which she'd have to be talked back into reality by a posse of relatives.

Living in Horton, directly under Heathrow's flightpath, didn't help the situation at all.

And on the eighth day God created carp fishing...and he saw that it was pukka.
