A little package arrived today, containing a pair of these.

 

Obviously, being a real man, I'm not going to admit to buying a pair of Lycra shorts, but they're actually very good. They have a large padded area, that makes me look like I'm wearing an incontinence towel, and are very comfortable.

 

I had bought a gel seat cover for the bike, but these just make it so much more comfortable.

 

Obviously, I'm going to wear normal shorts over them. It just wouldn't be fair on all the women otherwise

please do wear shorts over them ,talking as a fat man they may look sexy and alluring to us but look very different on someone else of the same body design

 

they also being tight make you look like you have a large err package ,they may do but the wearer isnt going to see it having an overhang and women will be too busy crying with laughter to chat you up because of it

blimey so your arse is only hanging six inches lower than your saddle now (saddle that painful little perch that rests between the back of your balls and your ring piece)

i took a mountain bike in the car when it was mot ed a couple of years ago ,after 30ft i got off and pushed it home ,saddle its softer to take it off and rest on the pillar

Maybe now but after a half hour ride to work through winter rain, nobody would say that of me. Definaly more "worm in an overcoat" than "mighty snake".

 

Check out some of the "baggy cycling shorts" available. They're made for the MTB brigade rather than road racers and have the same chamois inserts without making the rider look quite such a tit.

I think mine cost me fifteen quid from a JJB store that was closing down.

I wouldn't wear lycra shorts to ride a mountain bike, the best pair I've got at the moment are Endura Singletracks however they do not come with a cham pad.

 

That said I've been riding proper mountain bikes for so long I dont bother with a pad as my arse is like leather haha.

 

A better idea is to buy a pair of shorts which take a detachable pad, then in the summer you can wash the liner whilst not having to wash the actual shorts.

 

Also, a gel cover will not make a saddle comfier, you need a different shape perch if you are having real problems. Specialized Body Geometry are a good choice and I cant fault my WTB, however each to their own really.

 

Bikes, just to show you that I do have an idea, and not basing all of this on 6 months riding a tank from Argos.
