i stayed up to 2 in the morning once, camera with 300mm lense set up on tripod ,at the start the kids were summoned from bed .the kids were so bored they volenteered to go backto bed and the resulting photo`s from the entire thing so boring they were chucked ,never again

95% clear sky here nr Canterbury. Got a good view but only faintly lit up as yet....Should be due south in about 1hour and at its reddest.

I can't see what all the fuss is about. You can get the same effect with Paintshop Pro in seconds :D

Sh**, didn't think of that. I could probably have watched it online somewhere. I remember being in a pub's beer garden at night when one of the comets was visible in the sky. I stood there looking at it through my binoculars and a girl came up to ask what I was looking at. I told her and handed her the binoculars but she still couldn't see it, so I told her to try standing on one of the tables to get a bit closer - and she did :D
