OK, another stupid game.

 

Newt thinks his Carolina Panthers are Super Bowl bound once again, so in honor of this hopeless delusion :D here is Planters Online Football. My high score was 261.

 

Just out of curiosity, do any of you Islanders ever watch the Super Bowl, or follow the NFL?

I prefer to watch the college football to NFL, but I do "support" Jacksonville Jaguars, as a friend of mine from Jax has a box there and I have been fortunate to see a few home games.

The atmosphere in a big stadium is electric.

That's not football!!!

 

Over here we call it American Football, or Soft Yanks who play a game like Rugby but wear loads of protective padding because they don't want to hurt themselves!!!

 

Can't really get into American football, seems a bit stop start for me.

 

Have any of you American lads seen Rugby Union or Rugby League?

American Football is like most games.

When you understand the Rules, appreciate the tactics and can get "involved" in the game when watching, you enjoy it all the more.

 

The old worn out comparisons with Rugby Union (which I played) and Rugby League, don't stand up.

The "hits" in American Football are far harder.

No, but my cousin played on a traveling rugby team back in the 80's when he was in the US Marines. He got injured a lot as I recall. Brutal game.

 

I think it's safe to say that American football is the National Pastime over here, followed by baseball, basketball, and hockey. Soccer is moving up fast, though. My son used to play midfielder when he was in high school, and I really miss going to the games.

 

BTW - Soccer was derived from "Football Association" to distinguish the sport from American football.
