AT helping the EA to knock the last few nails in?

Without wishing to start another huge debate coveing the finer points, suffice to say that the probelms are essentially the same for both coarse and sea angling. Proposals to penalise anglers and drive another nail into the coffin of angling in general, that will make no difference whatsoever in the grand scheme of things.

Sea 'anglers' got their punch in first and made themselves noticed. Unfortunately, it was by making stupid proposals like the ones we are seeing now coming from certain coarse 'anglers'.

Just don't stop punching whilst the opposition's still on his feet!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

I've just sent the following e-mail to the EA. I t will be interesting to see what the answers are..........if I get a reply!

As a keen angler I filled in the consultation paper regarding the proposed legislation on the potential ban of taking coarse fish and grayling.

I take the odd fish for the table and I am concerned that I may become a criminal if the proposed new legislation is passed as I pay for an EA licence which allows me to take fish as long as they are in season and of a certain size. I also pay the landowner (who has no objection to me taking the occasional fish) via club membership subscriptions to access and take fish from his property.

I would be very grateful if you could answer my queries below.

As current fish theft law is based on landowner's rights why will it be illegal for a legitimate angler to take an edible fish from a club water when the landowner has no objection?

Why were grayling included with coarse fish?

Why are salmon and trout not included?

Will I recieve a refund on my EA rod licence?

Will club subscriptions be legally reduced?

Will the landowner be guilty of an offence if he takes fish for the table from his land?

Why create new legislation when existing legislation is already in place to prevent fish theft?

How would such new legislation be policed ?

If fish theft is still ocurring with existing legislation how will new legislation prevent fish theft?

My biggest frustration with any thing like this though is that you can never actually speak to or discuss these issues with the "faceless" ones who are in control.

I would also like to hear the AT's journalists explain and substantiate their stance.

I was going to sign up and offer my views but after reading the "headlines" and seeing the replies to the issue on the forum decided it just wasn't worth the effort.

I did, probably against my better judgement. I tried to use words of fewer than three syllables but, hey-ho I await the flood of badly spelt insults!................then again perhaps a sensible discussion might arise!

Given that the large majority of anglers never use a livebait, the outcome was always going to be a large vote against.

Most of the 80% against almost certainly don't give a fig for the retention of methods they don't use.

Polls are only of any use when those being polled have a reasonable understanding of the subject under discussion.
