Tench !!

So,

Anyone caught a tench yet this year? seen any signs of them?

Just wondering as I've got a few hours free on thursday, and I'm trying to decide if I should have a serious go for a tinca on one of the easier waters, or just take a few maggots and fish for bites ;-)

My brother caught a 5 and a half pound tench at about 11 pm on Friday night :) Caught from a rod length out very near some snags, he went on to catch a 14lb common carp from the same spot a few hours later. I caught nothing all night :(

Both were new PBs for him so he was ecstatic (he's 15 years old).

Indeed both fish looked in perfect condition which is great considering the hammering the lake gets and the stories i've heard and the splashes i've heard after someone brings in a fish (I assume they chucked them back in rather than placing the fish in the water :( ) The carp even had a leech attached to it, the first time i've ever seen a leech up close in my life

It started off a warm evening but the temperature plummeted, me being stupid decided to leave the front off my brolly system and I had very cold feet during the night.

A few Tench are have come out of Ladywood but not many. Bream have gone mad but roach and perch still dominating catches with the occassional crucian carp.

Yup Russ, this mild spell has got me thinking of the tench already, and as a few others seem to be catching I think I'll give it a go, only got time for a short session, but one bite is all I need ;-)
