The European Eel - A species under threat

The whole crazy thing about elvers is that they can hardly be regarded as a "staple" food for anyone! So why not stop the taking of them for a few years (wont solve the problem but may give us a bit more breathing time to find out what it is).

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

the huge lakes of albufera near valencia, where eel fishing for larger eels (normally around 30cm-40cm)which has been going on for centuries, has seen a reduction of about half of captures this year. polution is considered responsible, as the numbers of people that are allowed to fish for them now, is the same as then.

licences are strictly controlled.

Sorry but this has got to be said.

Well the "eel club boys" came on here, gave us a ****ing/lecture about a subject it seems that not only were most of us aware but in some cases had more information than they appeared to have then pi$$ed off never to contribute again!

Seen it a lot from many groups over the years put it really needles me! One of the reasons that I might have not given them much of a welcome maybe?

I doubt they will ever read this but just some food for thought maybe just maybe a gentler approach would help your cause more in future?

Same goes for any other "passing evangelists" as well?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

They will be back slapping congratulations going around, what they are party to is yet more rules and regs, including the at by the way as they are happy with the new rules and regulation being heaped onto people that will have NO effect what so ever with regards to the problem, or to the fix.

Wondering what the next crusade will 'acheive' for the angler. Well done boys. :yucky:

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Us "eel club boys" have better things to do, and as you pointed out, you know it all anyway  I will continue to read your posts, however, if only to marvel at your ability to criticise everything, and offer nothing by way of a constuctive solution.

My comments were obviousluy wasted Mark as you have still failed to climb of your high horse and "joined in" with AN. You know as little about any of us as we do you. You just presume. A failing with a lot of people in these single species organisations.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

So you have far better things to do than contribute on here then Mark? But its perfectly fine to use it as a stage when it suits? Just rude mate Im afraid in my personal view and it just wont do you or your cause any favours at all.Try and sort out a press officer as you obviously havnt got the time for such.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Don't worry too much Budgie, they'll have a lot more time to organise themselves if the eel is granted the same protection as shad!...........It will be illegal to fish for them deliberately.

The NAC's discussions with the EA might all have come to nought!

It's funny how there is this recurring theme of 'specialist'/specimen hunter/single species club self indulgence today!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Do you think passing a law banning the taking of eel contructive? Whats going to happen in salt water, more bans? Howabout banning angling for them altogether, might affect targetting other fish but a least you will protect them as well. Appears to be absurd dont you think. How many anglers took eel for the powers to be consider a ban worthwhile, or was it done on hearsay? What about a deep hooked eel that is bleeding from the gills, you know it is going to die, chuck it back dead or make good use of it? Your biggest problem i think has been the men in suits, don't you agree?

Fiddling while rome burns?
