Mobile phones ?

Yeah I have a few people recommending the blackberry - the 9700. I'll take a look in the vodafone shop and see what I fancy. I'm not overly keen on the touchscreen models anyway, so perhaps one of the Nokias or blackberry's may win out in the end. I've also had some good reviews from friends using the Nokia e71, the N97 and the N900. I guess I need to have a fiddle with the keyboards etc and take it from there.

Thanks for the advice but keep it coming ;)

Rob.

I keep threatening to get a more hi-tec phone, so I'll watch this thread with interest.

I went to some techy convention last year and was probably the only one who didn't have a Blackberry / iPhone type thing.

Mind you, I was probably also the only one who falls off boats, so it wasn't such a bad thing.

Waiting for someone to invent a phone that goes, ring ring, when someone wants to talk to you and to send a text without a camera and with nice big screen and letters for us old fogies. :D

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

They already have, although I don't think they ever make into the Carphone Warehouse:

Actually, I kind of like the look of the Doro Easy Mobile Phone, which is so Spartan it doesn't even have text messaging!

The Blackberrys one killer feature is it's email client, for everything else they're a bit crap, so unless you're a heavy emailer, maybe best avoided.

If all you want is a decent modern phone with a few impressive features, you can do a lot worse than whatever the decent Nokias are right now.

I like having proper sat nav, office programs, media playback, email, decent web browsing, plus texting and calling, so I've gone for a smart phone for years now, it means I need to take a netbook out with me less.

Jon, the email client is effectively the whole point of the Blackberry - they were desgned fundamentally to be a business tool, not a social gadget. However, the new 8900 Curve and 8520 where they have done away with the tracker ball are pretty good.

If you really want to cut down on the number of gadgets you have to carry, smart phones are fine, IMO. Where I feel differently about most of the things is that in a very small package where loads of functions are crammed in, the quality of the software decides whether they sink or swim. The best interface about at present is probably the i-phone - which I think of as a bit of a haemorroid (sooner or later every ar5ehole will have one!) The Palm Pre, Nokia, HTC, Google Nexus, Motorola and S/E Experia are all a bit clunky and with variable numbers and quality of apps available.

I return to my original point - the more you cram in to the package, the more likely it is to go wrong.

Indeed. The raison d'être of the original Blackberry was to be a client for Microsoft Exchange. The very first one that I saw way back in 2000 was 'push' client for Exchange. No phone, no camera, just Exchange email.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Have you tried the Hero yet Alan? I reckon Android is easily as usable as an iPhone without all the Apple nonsense.

As for your last sentence, for all my love of smartphones, two weekends ago I flew out of Dublin airport, and my phone (HTC Touch HD) was working fine, when we landed at Heathrow, and I powered it on, something had gone severely wrong and the touchscreen, amongst plenty of other things, had failed, so I had no phone, no messaging, no email and no Sat Nav for my journey home....

That's why I now have a shiny new Hero:)

Haven't seen it yet Jon...but the new HTC Bravo is on my shopping list and about £100 cheaper than the Google Newxus 1.
