Not a target for this year or next but is there something angling related that you want to do before you shuffle off this mortal coil ?

 

Not quite sure what mine is yet but dad's is to catch a salmon - unfortunatly he's not prepared to travel to the US, Canada or anywhere else outside the UK to make it happen.......

 

So what is it ?

 

Fish Redmire ?

 

Break a record ?

 

Catch an elusive species ?

 

Fish abroad ?

 

The options are endless.

At the moment it would be a nice quiet lily covered lake full of tench and decent perch. That would do, I simply can't float fish for tench in nice surrounding near where I live, its rubbish.... :(

Ultimate aim would have to be a specimen sized fish of every species (in the UK) caught on purpose and on appropriate tackle - and after a lot of blood, sweat and tears :)

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

I would like to catch a bill fish Marlin or Sailfish I'm not fussy either would do and both would be magic. I had a Marlin on once but it smashed me up, typical 5 rods out trolling and the fish takes the light one I was messing about with trying to catch bait.

 

I don't make it easy for myself by visiting destinations after the migrations and only get a chance once or twice a year to have a go for them. but the wait and the expectation of whether it will ever happen is part of the fun. I'm off to Thailand in June and so there is another chance for a Sail.

 

I've been lucky in that most of the species of fish that I dreamed about catching as a kid have been caught, but these two elude me.

To a large extent I've already achieved what's important to me i.e. having access to the stunningly beautiful river network in my area. My goal now is to enjoy it for as long as I can, it'll take years for me to familiarise myself with my club waters let alone the bonus locations. I’m sure the specimen fish will come along every now and then.

I wouldn't mind doing the salty flyfishers hat trick, Bonefish, Tarpon and Permit all in a single session.

Off to Cuba in April agin so I might get a chance though I suspect it will be the poor man's hat trick again: Barracuda, Barracuda and Barracuda.

Those dam cuda, its hard enough to get past them to catch any thing else and even when you do hook another species they come along and cut your fish in half :D

Think Ive done all the realistically achievable ones except for a 2lb+ Roach. Hopefully I will get the motivation before I go to the big pit in the sky and make an effort to track one down.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
