2 has to better than 1...surely! :-)

Hi all,

I have only been fishing a handful of times, with a 10' float match rod, great for the margins and what not and thought it would last me many months and I'd be happy with just using that 1 rod and wouldnt need or want another one for ages much to the delight of the misses...

However, I've had the urge to go buy another rod, so I can ledger with it and have 2 on the go at once, I quickly learnt that 1 just isn't enough :D 1 on the float, and the other on the ledger (maybe with the Polaris Sidewinder III gizmo)... I have just bought a Wychwood Rogue Barbel 12' 1.75TC, I have heard from other people on here saying that the Wychwood gear is pretty good stuff for the price, so I have trusted AN and gone with it! Now I just need to wait for it to be delivered and get out on the lake and start using it... In theory (and a very loose theory at that) I hope with 2 rods, it should increase my chance of catching some Tinca's! one in the margins, and one slightly deeper out...

Wish me luck! :)

Cheers,

Stooby...

A small word of warning especially if you're fishing a water with a good head of carp. Make sure your reel has a baitrunner facility and it set correctly. Many a second (and sometimes single) rod has disappeared into the depths, while the owner was otherwise occupied.

Just ask Sportsman, he found out the hard way. ;)

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Theres a lot of sense in what Gozzer said about the baitrunner facility.

I remember I had to jump in and swim after my 2nd rod once, luckily it was a shallowish estate lake in mid summer and I saw the rod handle sticking up next to a bed of rushes near the middle of the lake. I finished playing the 6 or 7lb Carp which was still on and not weeded up while I was standing in near shoulder depth water and I cut my foot on something sharp while wading back afterwards. and that was because I took my eye off of my 2nd rod while rebaiting my 1st rod. :)

Yep, I've seen several rods launched into lakes!

Using more than one rod can be very effective. However, I'd say that doing one thing well is better than doing two things badly, so if it turns out to be more hassle than it's worth, don't persevere for the sake of it.

You know me too well, your right in thinking that there is a chance I'll be doing 2 things badly! :) ....but I will take everything into account what everyone has said and let you know how I get on! thanks for all the input and important things to make a note of, I dont fancy losing a rod first time out so I'll set up everything up correctly! ....and keep my fingers crossed!

Cheers,
