Ohh yes this is fun, (now ten pages of it ) here we go yet again, first it 's been put up that there's confused divers, they don't know there ling from there conger, now it's pretty much certain that congers by the divers have been confirmed as likend to ghosts and for forty years there ain't any in one particular part of the uk coast. Thats after someone else has even told us there's loads of straps. But the last one to be caught off one boat was two years ago. And commercially congers get caught in pots, was that a bit of a smoke screen.:clap: Still, what do i know living in my own little world, thats the one that has congers up the cold norway coast and icleland has the largest at over 300lb. Are they in part of the gulf stream btw. :D

Can you see why i like arguing, Glenns words, not mine. :D

Is this what's called sucker punches Mr M or maybe accepting that one area provides better bounties than others?

Na, never 'appen, mines bigger than yours. Sure that was the start of the topic. Followed by an unconfirmed 25lb pollock,54lb ling

So has it been confirmed then Barry that the ling and Pollock that where posted by GlenK where (as I suspected) not anywhere near the size that he was claiming that they where then? If so why?

Looking from a business point of view I would of thought that catching congers (or at least the possibility of catching congers) must be a positive view on attracting more anglers to Whitby and the surrounding area’s. I too have talked to commercial fishermen, divers and anglers all along the north east coast over the years and they seam to have a more positive outlook as to there not just being congers about but also the fact that they are catch able.

We had a lot of excitement about halibut a few weeks ago when one or two where caught, maybe if somebody would catch a decent conger then we would have the same enthusiasm and interest.

Think that someone should give it a (serious) try. Maybe have a competition and a trophy (could name it the JB Trophy) with some good prize money for the first boat to catch a conger. I Would have thought that you could get some serious sponsorship for such a competition.

Don’t do Ghost busting but if yer talking snakes ‘Who ya gonna call Conger catchers!!!!’

Now that would be us !!!!

While that might appear to sound a little cocky it isn’t meant to be but I can honestly say I have had more than my fair share of the critters over the years. So lads if there are any there and the skipper can put the boat in the right spot I will have them trust me. I so confident here is a challenge. Big Cod asked Barry to put up or shut up. Well I tell you what, put us on a wreck with the hook in for a day and if we have one of your non existent Congers then we have a free day if we fail we pay. And to make the trip worth while lets do it during your festival next year so we can have a crack at that to. We book five days with one day of that for the challenge, what do ya say?

As for the banter in this thread Mr Motorola dont worry, we are sea anglers and thats what we do If ya take it seriously ya shoulnt be here, as far as I'm concerened 'It's all in the best posable taste' :D

Brill, but two days though, one on the conger the second full tide at anchor for the ling. Need to check the dates and the tide and we'll be up. Will we need the bullet proof vests. :D Only other premis though Bob, please excuse me from using circle hooks as i find it difficult to get me pound of squid up the line and me two flappers, one on the eye, the other on the barb from looking good. B)

I,m no expert at anchoring Wildcard, however sounds over complicated to me and possibly dangerous, why are you working it out to the 'n'th degree. I have told previous one in particular does,nt even use an alderney ring to re-set if he gets pushed off, just steams out go around and re-set. Yes it is the skippers who drive the bus who rely on the plotter and gps to set. Is it that difficult?

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Don’t hold your breath Barry old mate, they now know we are serious and might be going to check out if the info we have given so far might just work.

Then there is you telling them how to bait the hook what are you like lol. Mind you I have never offered a gourmet meal of such stature when going for them, but then it’s the chip shop when I take er in doors out for a meal.

We certainly have some half decent ling fishermen 'up north'.

In the video I posted, the lad holding the cod by the eyes won the Hartlepool small boats comp twice in a row with 1st 2nd and 3rd prizes going to his own boat. To do this twice in a row is quite something.

The lad holding the foot long squid bait is Dave Bruce. He has had ling up to 42lb and he is also the swiftcats new owner. Davey won the Hartlepool small boat comp 3 times in a row. His specialist subject is ling fishing in September. His crewman Andrew has had ling up to 28lb - all from wrecks.

We have the skippers. We have the anglers. We have the skills and knowledge. What we don't have are eel members of the Congridae.

Fine, do you think he can register the boat with the association then, as an associate guest skipper or are the rules a bit stringent. Invite us up as guests. We'll pay the exes. Sounds just the job. :)

Best regards Dave Bruce mate. Just imagine Dave and me discussing tactics, were'd be like old muckers. :D
