New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Dear Barry

Just a few lines to keep you updated with news about the fishing in general from Weymouth and the Channel Islands.

This year has been remarkable so far with very few trips being cancelled because of the weather, and whilst it seemed to take an age to warm up, summer seems to be here and holding!!

The fishing has been generally good but the Cod have been disappointing compared to the previous two years, although several nice specimens have been recorded. Wrecking overall has been steady with good Pollack catches through the spring as well as a few big Ling. Congers too have been ever present so there has been lots to enjoy. Good sessions on the Shambles have produced some nice Turbot for the patient angler and right now a few Brill have started to show. Bassing was late to get going but there are quite a lot of smallish fish around now on the bigger tides.

Inshore Tope and Bull Huss and especially Black Bream are now the mainstay of the summer fishing with the Bass of course on bigger tides.

Tiger Lily has been re-engined as part of a planned maintenance schedule and is performing well with an extra 90hp a side! Still running on Iveco Electronic Turbocharged engines, she really purrs along now.

Several Channel Island trips have been completed this year and in fairness I have to say that the fishing has been better there than in the last couple of years. Plenty of Flatties, and more recently, Bass and Bream.

As usual in these updates, there are a few dates to mention...my group who for years have booked me for the Weymouth Conger Competition are struggling to field enough anglers for this years event. The dates are 18th 19th and 20th August and they are looking for up to 3 anglers to fill the boat. As you know, the event is probably the biggest Conger event in the UK and is all catch and release with lots of nice prizes as well as optional sweep. Also I need to let you know that in 2011 and 2012 Tiger Lily will be involved with the Olympics for quite a few days in the month of August in both years. This will of course affect group bookings and make availability a bit tight, but I will be as fair as I can to regular groups and share out the prime dates the best I can.

Best Regards & tight lines…

Chris Caines

Told you them lads up north were a bit on the strange side Barry old mate. That Alan is toying with us, thing is. Is that legal?

As for Google, well, there is a way to be like a politician with a numbers chart, you can get it to say what ever you want.

As for this deep water cold ploom whoop’s ‘plume’ Tis ok Big Cod we can all have a typo moment, but I see where you’re coming from.

So does this by any chance, mean you’re confident enough to take us up on the challenge? Because to see us get Alan’s heckles up just turns my mate Barry on. Me I would just love to come up and ave some more banter with you boys and who knows just maybe pull one or two big snakes up for a photograph.

I feel a North Sea, South and Channel, Irish Sea, Scottish water challenge coming on here!

I've been lucky enough for a go at this channel conger lark at the weekend with Barry, this could get rather exciting......and addictive :D

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

There is a curious set of tides associated with the Whitby area which is compounded by the ‘coastal effect’. The coastal effect is the term given to the effect the geography of the land has on the direction and speed of the run. The Humber estuary is just south of here.

Flooding tide

Ebbing tide

The ebbing tide will have vast amounts of fresh water in it from the Humber estuary. The estuary of the Humber is 8 miles wide and is not called 'the wash' for nothing. When the tide floods it will have mainly salt water in it.

It would be my guess that this differing change in salinity and temperature is the reason congers do not inhabit our waters. I have no doubt though they do pass through but find the waters too changeable to become resident.

Cod dont mind fresh water at all and are often caught in the rivers.

I am moving house at the moment and was clearing out the loft when I came across an old Whitby Gazette. Dated 15 April 2008. Would you believe it on the back page was an update of the spring angling festival and a picture of an angler Ian Conwell and his 6lb conger eel that he had caught off Whitby during the festival? Knot very big I know but just a tad more evidence that there about. Considering that the biggest fish that week was a cod of 6lb 7.5oz it wasn’t such a bad fish.
