Thames poluted again

Just watched the london news and after the heavy rain last night effluent has yet again flowed into the Thames. i can't beleave at this day of age that this can still happen.with winter not here and worse weather to come is this going to happen every time it rains! if so will the fish stocks will be wiped out? it seems that the water authority has failed to invest in suitable procedures for this. hope things don't go back like it used to be on the Thames

They must be laughing eh? I mean they got away with it how many times before, still nothing gets done.

It would take something like the plague for them to do something serious and then they would be blaming it on the ozone layer.....

Given this has happened again! Shouldn’t London Anglers now be asking some questions of the EA about what they propose to do about this continued flouting of river pollution?

 

Or has a deal been struck between the two parties and they are playing politics with the Govt. about the intercepter tunnel under London?

 

On the plague front if this continues the House will have to be having 12 months holiday because the smells to bad, instead of the three months it now takes off for that historic reason.

 

On the other hand, some might say politicians should be off permanently for all the use they are, but I couldn’t possibly comment on that though!

Raw Sewage has gone into the Thames every month, according to a new report!

 

"Raw sewage has been pumped into the Thames in London every month for the last four years, in far greater quantities than the government has previously admitted, according to new figures."

Shouldn't really be less than serious on this one. But it does prove that a lot of crap comes out of the city. Perhaps, in reality a profound statement with hidden meanings .

Problem is..It is legal and the government allows it. The EA sets the standards and issues the legal licences to discharge raw sewage. That's why it always happens and they get away with it. The rivers are treated as another form of sewage disposal full stop. The polluter pays...for the legal right to pollute!...Ray

This is another thing a few of us were predicting nearly 40 years ago, but no one took any notice!

Every extra acre of concrete or tarmac = an extra acre of instant run-off = an increased danger of pollution.

Had anglers got together then and made enough noise then perhaps something might have been done to deal with that instant run-off in a way that didn't endanger fish as much as it does. But just as they are in the face of having their sport banned, anglers buried their heads in the sand and said that it will never happen and even argued against what was being predicted!

In a statement, the Department for Environment said: "While the proposed interceptor tunnel might still emerge as the most appropriate long-term solution, the government has since decided that, bearing in mind the scale, the costs and the long implementation timescale, further consideration is necessary before decisions are reached."

 

Is this double talk meaning the Government won't allow water bills to go up in an election year?

 

Politicians seem to be more concerned with feathering their own nests than doing what's right for the electorate. :mad:
