I have started fishing for carp but have found as soon as i start fishing all i catch are bream, dont get me wrong i like bream but it would be nice to catch what im aiming for. I used pellet in the feeder, maggot in the feeder, sweetcorn on the hook, even a big chunk of luncheon meat and still just bream!!! So, any tips on how to avoid bream and catch more carp?? I really cant think of a bait they wont go for or a method that will work so any advice would be great! Thanks

P.S. I realise a big boilie would probably work but theyre banned on this lake, along with groundbait, nuts and pulses :(

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

Something that MAY work, is to put a very stiff paste ball in an armamesh sock. Make it about 25mm?

I know bream don't like feeding in/over weed so perhaps pick a location close to snags or over/in weed to try and pick a location the bream won't feed in rather than pick a bait that they won't feed.... never really tried it though but it might be worth trying.

ok thanks very much, will try under overhanging trees or something and maybe put less feed down to bring them in, just a big hookbait. I might also try a lobworm, never heard of bream being caught on lobworm, but i might be very wrong there :)

Good advice from Errrm - switching baits will have little effect, but switching locations might. It could also be worth trying LOTS of hemp and/or salty baits/groundbaits.

Stalking may be your best option, if that's practical.

They love lobworms!
