03/04 - a bad year on the rivers?

Umm - I'm not sure it's been such a bad year. There was good fry recruitment on the Kennet this summer - I've had plenty of silver fish - many quite small ones - good for the future if they can avoid the black death! Also I did rather well for baby barbel this year - had a fair number under a pound! I'd like to see some smaller chub coming through - a few years ago it was rare to get one over 3½lbs these days it's rare to get one under!! Flow levels and weed growth are still problematic. But all in all I don't think things are all bad!

Well, ive mainly fished the Don in the Sheffield area this year and to all accounts its been great.

 

Anyone ive talked to has been really surprised at how well it has fished.

I mainly fished the Loddon and had some great sport. Most people I spoke to in the area I fished complained that the chub and barbel fishing had poor. I thought I'd try for something different and caught more good sized perch this Summer than ever.

I finially hooked the monster barbel i was stalking last year!! Lost the bugger in weed mind , and that was using a 2.5lb tc rod! Hard work catching big barbel on small rivers. Must have been 12lb+, this year.....hes mine!!!
