Cheap lures/softbaits

Hi all,

I am looking for an online shop (or ebay store) that sells lures such as soft shads for a decent price and that isnt total garbage when it arrives. Just wondered if anyone knew of any good outlets for them.

Thanks

Rik

My experience of buying and using shads is that you get what you pay for

Cheap shads tend to be hard lumps of rubber with no give in them and no tail action, the best shads are in my opinion those made by Diawa and storm and Middy, all of those are made from a very soft material that feels fleshy but they're made from a soft enough compound that lets the tail swim when retrieved and its that tail swimming action that the fish home in on

Hard lumps don't give off that tail vibration and you could just as easily pull a shad past a fish without tempting it but with a sot shad the vibrating tail gives you a better chance of provoking a reaction from instinct and if you're feeling confident about the lure you're using then generally you'll fish better with it rather than one you don't fancy or one that does'nt feel right

Have a look at some of the stuff our Newt sells. Maybe not a true shad but the Kickin Minnows he sells are the dogs doo dahs Ive had quite a few good fish on them.Ask him nicely and he may be able to sort you some shads as well.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

That can go both ways. I've had plenty of 50p shads from buckets in tackle-shops that were just as good, if not better than the pre-rigged ones made by the big brands. I've got loads with plenty of action and they catch. Lots of pikers want to use Dawgs and Replicants all the time. I've done well on throwaway shads where the colours have leeched together, on equally cheap jig heads.

Like you say though, it's what you're confident in and I'd put some of my cheapo shads against a Replicant any day.

I haven't used them myself (yet) but they came highly recommended by someone who does a lot of predator fishing. Might be worth a look, or phone call - apparently the guy there really knows his stuff.

Have a look in the sea angling section of tackle shops. Theres often a good range of soft baits at lower prices.

A good tip, there stuff always seems much cheaper.

Stephen

Now I would disagree here.Whilst Andy is a pleasant enough guy his prices are top dollar! (Having his premises smack bang in Tunbridge no doubt don't help!)

He also has some strange ideas! And sad to say you will often get recommended colours and patterns simply as they are not shifting.

But regardless of my personal opinions you can simply get the same quality products a lot of other places for a lot cheaper.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
