it was very like minnow below but the only big difference it was fatter at the head and was almost white with a black stripe running down its side with similar markings on a mackrel above its black stripe. strange looking little fellow, seen a few in the river kelvin in glasgow.

I suppose the pike anglers will get the credit for this one as well. All the pike anglers I know use Korean minows as bait <_<

Entry from my fishing diary.

14-8-96. Loch an **** Mor (a hill lochan in Argyll). 6 trout, and a minnow on a # 10 goldheaded green nymph, fished slowly. The minnow was not much longer than the fly.

I have frequently fished much smaller flies for dace in a local stream that is stiff with dace and minnow - caught plenty of dace, yet the above remains the only minnow I have ever had on fly. Some sort of Korean-Scottish aggression I suppose :)

Seems unlikely that it's an Asian invader but if you're convinced that it's a Korean minnow, the best course of action would be to take a specimen, get some good live photo's ans then drop the fish into a sample bottle along with a dram of vodka and report the whole thing to the EA.

ken yes im 100% ive never seen a minnow like it and if you look at the link i posted the picture is 100% spot on.

tried catching one with a makeshift minnow trap but it was having none of it and i couldnt be bothered going back to the car for a net. one thing though it was incredibly hard to spook that little thing, i lobbed stones in right infront of it and nothing whilst all the trout fry scampered like it was Armageddon.

I've just noticed the species name (latin) in the link that I posted as opposed to the one that you posted. Looks like the same beastie.

Yep, the link Andy posted is to a common minnow, found throughout Britain, often found somehow impaled on a size 8 having eating a bunch of maggots bigger than its head. Historically present as far as North Eastern Scotland, but absent from the Northern Highlands:
