Dead Pike

Two over thirty, several over twenty, and not just killed by noddies. There are quite a few out there who should know better judging by all the gear they have!

We never ever should have allowed the four rod rule on the Broads, especially from boats. It's sickening, Oulton Broad used to be a superb fishery, not now.

I found another mid twenty floating in the reeds at the weekend, pitiful.

Sorry, but what are noddies?

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

What's the consensus on the cause of the Pike deaths, Peter?

Dave, Noddy is a derogatory term for an 'angler' who doesn't know what they're doing.

You know the type. Spinning rods, fluoro yellow bubble-floats, 30lb sea-fishing line from the 1980s, 8" traces (if at all), notoriously weak single 4/0 bait-holder sea-hooks, salt-laden coffee-grinder reels, fires, mess, unsightly mongrel children, dogs called Rab or Tyson, tent with a fat, minging wife/girlfriend/breeding machine inside, ghetto-blaster, beers, disposable barbecues, foul language....you get the picture.

There's quite a lot of info on Noddies on this old thread of Andy's. I think the technical descriptions start about halfway through! B)

Spinning and Noddies

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!
