I've got allsorts to do in the house and garden so I'll take advantage of the break in my fishing and get some sorted. I'm lookin forwards to my tench fishing to be honest but round these parts that's a few weeks off yet as the tench are still sleepy.

It's the best thing you can do I reckon. I'll probably be doing a bit of exploring this weekend, looking for new bits of river ready for next winter. Any preparation you do now will replay you later on, plus it's fun :)

Yeah true, I have had my eye on a bit of water for a few years now and hopefully if I get a ticket this weekend I will have a good look around. Try to work out where those Chub, Barbel & Perch are likely to be hanging out. Reading about yours and others good river catch's and the monster 3.12 Chub I had at the Itchen :D has kicked me in to returning to some river fishing.

Bit late in the day to re-kindle the river bug  but I can always start making plans for the Autumn.

Stephen

Well my 'non-fishing' weekend has been quite fishing orientated! Yesterday I did some exploring on a new bit of river, and I'm already really excited about it. It has all the right ingredients for big fish, including very limited access (read - very long walks, many miles). I took a load of photos, and am now looking through them imagining fishing there next winter...

Today I really sorted out the tackle shed. Everything came out, rods put back in bags, tackle all tied away into the right boxes, floor swept (there was a LOT of mouldy bread  ), and everything organised. It took ages but it's so much better now. All I need to do next is get my bulk bait order in, respool the reels, and look forward to the next trip and the new season :)

I wouldn't worry Mr Rusty, have a beer and buff your tackle! If I have one good day a month I'm fortunate! Therefore one day is usually sufficient to slate my thirst for a week or two at least.

I am OK with the season closing so far, I haven't craved to get out on the river so far, although, I am looking for some fly fishing. I think I may have found myself a syndicate which meets my needs, and if not I'm going to have a few days in the West Country in the spring and it may coincide with the early hatches.

I've also decided to do a bit of stillwater coarse fishing this close season and will be having a go for a tench and/or a big bream. I've not caught a tench for about 10 years - mainly because I mainly fish rivers or fly fish. But I won't bother until May.

I think the best thing about not fishing, and or the close season is planning for the next trip, or finding new stretches or lakes on the internet or in books and magazines, even if you secretly know you're not going to fish them. In some ways it's better if you don't fish them - you are never disappointed!

I get like this sometimes, sometimes all i think about is the next time i will be fishing, how i will fish, where i will fish, what bait, what tactic, what do i need to buy, how will i get there....and others i just can't be bothered. It never lasts more than a week or two though, i'll be back down the canal before you can say hey presto :D :D

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

Troubles, troubles, troubles. In between cleaning, sprucing up and lubing my sea and fly tackle I'm quite glad I haven't got to worry about coarse fishing :P

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

I've been out regularly since the thaw and looking forward to going tomorrow. I think your symptoms are worrying, if they persist I would seriously consider getting professional help :P

Well they persisted. Yesterday I bought an oven to replace the one that I ruined a year ago (used the wrong cleaner) and a new hoover, then I jetwashed the patio in preparation for the Spring BBQ season. Today I made inroads in clearing brambles and overgrown trees at the back of the garden, would've carried on into the evening if I could've got the bloody fire to light.

It felt pretty good having a break, might continue domestic activities this weekend.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back
