I've just seen this,

My view is that if it happens, (and it's not just a publicity stunt), then they should be subject to the full weight of any penalties possible. They can't plead "I didn't realise mate". It's a premeditated, planned event, and if they are not prosecuted then, it's a free for all on any aspect of the laws governing angling.

 

 

We can even take fish for the pot Mr Worms :thumbs:

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

I'm with you John. I hope they do attempt it and are bundled off in black moriahs, tackle and vehicles confiscated and each fined as much as the law allows..........I might even go and watch!

 

 

 

 

 

Then, when they've all been carted off and the police and EA are processing them I'll nip down and bag a few roe'd up dace for tea B)

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

I have always been in favour of the closed season but as I get older I start to wonder is it a benefit? The protecting fish stocks argument/model does not fit all and not letting anglers fish does not stop poachers from carrying on. Arguments about letting the banks recover and giving all the wildlife a rest and not disturbing birds etc also holds no weight. What about all the boat users, dog walkers etc causing a disturbance?

 

For tradition sake it's a nice thing, but not sure it is relevant anymore.

 

No doubt the club secretary and a few other officials will get there details taken and hit with a fine and no doubt one mile down stream some ne'er do wells will be loading up carrie bags with fish and get away scot free :rolleyes:

What about the game anglers who pay three times more for a licence and wouldn't mind three months fishing a superb salmon river without fear of recriminations from match anglers?

 

I'm sorely tempted to wander up to Bewdley with a 12wt rod and a heavy sink tip whilst they are trotting!

 

After all, there are hundreds of stillwaters thay can fish if they feel the urge .

Good point.

 

im quite happy with the way things are in respect of the river season but then id be quite happy to have a few months of bagging up on a commercial a bit of fun float fishing but then my season mainly runs from october to march gotta love pike!

 

im not sure wether a closed season has any advantage or disadvantage to the enviroment really but i know it keeps the hunger for fishing alive knowing you cant fish only makes you want to even more

 

as with all good things moderation is key and a few months close season doesnt hurt anyone surely?

I am all in favour of them getting strung up. Why should the rest of us follow the law when others blatantly flout it. I have seen countless people fishing the rivers near me and to be honest it is beginning to really p*** me off. Does anyone know the number I should ring to report them (although nothing will likely be done about it) because I want it stopped on the stretches I fish.

 

I am in favour of the closed season simply to give the fish a rest. It cant be good for them to be getting stressed out and pressured all the time. Also the fishing is always fantastic after the closed season as the fish tend to be a lot less wary after the pressure has died down so why wouldnt you want to keep it.

 

Why it is such a problem for some people I will never know. So what if you have to go and do something else or fish somewhere else for a little while. I like it because it allows me to go and do what I did the other day which is catch a bucket load of tench on the pole at a lovely quiet stillwater.

I get what you mean totally dales and If there was a review and it was decided to drop the closed season I would not have a problem with it as I would be assuming that people with more resources available than myself would have thoroughly researched the pros and cons of it and come to the correct decision. Far fetched idea i know :D . It is the fact that at the moment the rule is there and people should respect it. I suspect that a lot of the people who ignore it dont have a license anyway and therefore couldnt give a toss about rules and regulations.

 

I know that if the EA actually did anything about licenses and enforcing the closed season that stunts such as this would not be planned for fear of recriminations but people know full well that they can effectively do as they please on our rivers these days and nothing will be done about it with the vast majority of them. This group need to have an example made out of them just to send a message out to others who consider doing the same. Until the closed season is removed rules are rules and people should respect them and the reasoning behind them. We are all adults and should be able to follow a few simple laws and regulations.

 

As I said I like the closed season for the fishes sake but it also allows the bank side a little time to regrow and get its natural look back which benefits many people and wildlife. It doesnt just boil down to the fish alone. The stretch of the river I fish looks absolutely beautiful in June after it has had a little time to regenerate but come a few months later and it doesnt look half as good with pegs worn out into the bank and muddy tracks here there and everywhere. Not to mention the litter left by idiotic people who cant seem to take the time to put their crap back in their bag before they scarper.
