What is the current world record carp?

Just out of interest. I haven't been keeping up with this kind of thing since I stopped reading the weeklies back in about 1903.

I know this isn't the record, but the father of one of my friends, who lives a couple of doors from my parents, is a fanatic fisherman, and occasionally fishes foreign waters. Last year (or maybe the year before last??) he caught one of 64lbs.

Still... I caught a roach once...

I assume you mean "largest carp ever caught (worldwide) by a british angler"? Dunno. He's a funny bloke, bit secretive, so I doubt it was in any press. However, he did show me the pictures, and it certainly looked a mighty big fish. Can't remember which lake in France? it was from now. Apparently he "stalked" it.

Could be all crap I know, but as I say, I saw the pictures and it was a BIG fish...

The world record carp capture is up in arms actually.

I quote http://www.carpecarpio.com/hairrigs-igfa.html

"It has just been brought to my attention by UK carp angler Brian Johnston that the IGFA considers the use of the hair rig illegal for any fish caught for record book consideration. Specifically, according to Rules for fishing in fresh and saltwater, Equipment regulations, paragraph G. Hooks for bait fishing Section 1.."...hooks must be imbedded in, or securely attached to the bait. And Section2..."The use of a dangling or swinging hook is prohibited..."

So based on this rule, the IGFA has retired Christian Baldemair's 82 lb. 12 oz. (37.30 kg) world record, and will also retire the next runner up. All told, the group will retire six record fish, due to the use of the hair rig.

The rule was made to discourage the snagging or foul-hooking of fish, but the hair rig was devised to hook the fish in the mouth, which it does nearly 100% of the time. Of course, these arguments were made to the association, but "rules are rules."

Douglas P. Blodgett, Jr has addressed this issue directly, and he can be e-mailed at Dblodgett@igfa.org. "

I wonder who holds the record then?

Cranfield:

I had an 18 pounder on two red maggots, completely impaled on a size 16 hook, last Spring.

How did you manage to completely impale and 18lb fish on a #16 hook?
