hi all, new to the forum with a question

 

does any one know who sells these floats?

Drennan floats are still widely available.

Yours is just a small insert wagler.

Here is one of the fist suppliers that happened to come up using a search engine.

Can't help you in buying one, but you could make something that does exactly the same job from a crowquill.

 

Choose a crowquill so that when stripped of feathers and the very fine tip cut off you are left with a blank about 6 to 7" long

 

Whip on a ring made from fine copper wire to the thick end of the quill. Varnish the whipping.

Paint the thin end your favourite float colour, shot it down so only a half-inch shows above water, fish it bottom end only, and there ya go.

 

All the buoyancy in the bottom end, a thin tip that doesn't catch the wind, and you have the ideal float for the canal, (provided the water is still or slow-moving - ie there is not a considerable tow)

It's just a question of displacement.

for a diy tapered tip ,in a word ...... cocktail sticks / tooth picks ,a little rub down ,a white base coat then a floro topcoat
