check out the net before you buy locally, it can give you a better idea of what tackle is about, but also remember to support your local tackle shop. Local tackle shops cant stock wide tackle ranges unless they also sell on the net. Join a local club they can help you with the newer methods but I do what I have always done not much different in 50 years.

You sound quite young to me so for your own safety I suggest you join a local fishing club or look on the net for tuition and fishing coaches.

Welcome, Keep doing what you are doing you will find more, anglers who fish the quiet places are not likely to tell anyone else where they fish especially so on a forum, it will ruin what is a good place to fish.

Having recently returned to fishing after several years away, I have discovered the wonders of commercially stocked and professionally run lake fisheries quite a new thing for me at least. I am wondering however, if just possibly I have got it wrong in originally thinking that I needed a rod and reel to fish with. From what I have read, seen and heard I need not take a rod, just a very large net and some very specialised modern technology. Then I set up my underwater cameras, a couple of radio controlled boats with sonar and fish locators and naturally a multi screen lap top 50 or so kilo’s of mixed ground bait and boiles and perhaps a radio controlled submarine to herd the giant fish with. The two radio controlled boats then tear off loaded with what looks like rockets (on the tackle shop walls anyway). Not being ‘totally stupid’ I realise 'the truth' that these so called spod's are in fact rocket looking attachments are really surface launched and guided underwater high powered mini explosives or chemical weapons (probably containing the essence of bears and wild cat pheromones) to scare the fish to where you want them. Then once the fish are safely feeding above your net you jump into your Chelsea taxi (4 x 4) start the front winch up on high speed and you are away with a giant bag of force fed anabolic steroid powered carp and whatever other fish these is to hand. Simple, the only problem occurred when I asked my mortgage company for a second mortgage to pay for all the equipment I needed to fish with. They suggested I applied to the government for a fresh start or enterprise loan or did they call it a bail out loan, whatever they called it. I am now wondering where I can get the forms so I can apply for one of these wondrous loans so that I can fish politically correctly with a low carbon footprint (I wear rubber soled wellies not carbon ones, guess I got that wrong too. Then I shall head off to some of these commercially stocked lakes and get a ton of super powered fish, which I can then, naturally with the appropriate authorisation export to Eastern Europe. So that they too can enjoy the taste of modern caught English fish just as their enterprising kinsmen who have travelled great distances and endured considerable hardship (the trains were most likely nearly as crowded as our trains are) in order to be able to eat these amazing English fish. I bet they are a real delicacy and highly prized in Eastern Europe, perhaps they are very expensive there and I will make a ton of money. Then with all the money I might make perhaps I could create jobs for others, then I could help the French get all their Zander back using these modern herding tactics. I bet they will be really pleased and most likely have been very upset about the loss of their fish. Perhaps I would even get a M.B.E. for all my good work. Then I could consider the crayfish, perhaps the American government would like them all back it would most likely help with feeding all the people still suffering from the floods that occurred a while ago. Maybe I would even get some sort of Nobel Prize.
