just leave a big bit of carpet in a shade of a folly or behind the servents quarters in the corner of your estate ,the worms will be there waiting :) alternatly get your servants to sift by hand the dung heap produced by your polo ponies or hunters ,use the third kitchen maid to do this task its cheaper :)

What wonderful timing. I was just about to post the fact that a company called Wiggly Wigglers (yes really!) produce some excellent wormeries and they're currently on sale and lo - this thread appears :)

So pop along and have a look at the Can-o-Worms. canoworms.jpg

It's currently on sale for £75 complete with the Value Pack and includes everything you need to set up a wormery which will keep you supplied quite comfortably with worms and get rid of household & garden waste at the same time.

I personally have a Wastejuggler which I've had for a few years now and it's excellent. Not only do we get good fishing worms, but we also get good compost and plenty of liquid fertiliser to put on the houseplants and the vegetables. I'm thinking of upgrading to the Can-o-Worms however because it'll be easier to maintain and harvest the worms.

This is also a useful site if you want worms for fishing direct (including Lobs) or even things like mealworms, buffalo wormsor waxworms.

Stack up a couple of old tyres, three at a max, fill with earth and stock with lobworms collected from the lawn. Lob in a bit of detritus, fruit peel is good, but potatoes skins are better...

When you want worms, take a tyre off, sift the topsoil, put the tyre back on and refill it. Dead simple.

Another useful tip from Adz' encyplopaedia of completely worthless facts... you can plant potatoes in old tyres too... when the shoots appear over the top of the tyre rim, stick another tyre on top and fill it up with earth... when you've got it about 6 tyres high, let the plant do it's thing - makes for a lot less effort collecting your spuds than digging them up ;-D

Cheers,

Adz.

When our local council switched to the use of wheely bins, I kept my old style dustbin, I put big sawcuts in the bottom to take out 3 V shapes to aid drainage and started off half filling it with horsemuck.

On top of this goes all the veg kitchen waste, teabags, fruit. Apples and boiled potatoes will quickly be eaten by the redworms that you introduce yourself to get a good start.

I now have 3 bins at the bottom of the garden and have a permanant supply of redworms.

Eeeeeeeeee older I get the better I was.

I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness I can show to any fellow - creature, let me do it now, let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.

I say Chesters, you have fallen in my estimation.... digging holes! I hope you get yourunder gardener to do that. I find that kitchen staff get a bit squeamish about worms, but here what you say about the 3rd cook being cheaper.

I find my undergardener is quite productive, especially when one fires some shot around him from the south tower of my pad. Quite good sport really Chesters. Keep the domestics on their toes and in their place is what I say!!!
