digital scales

Thanks for the advice. I've ordered a set of Berkley 20lb digital scales - I like the fact that they are completely waterproof. They come out well for accuracy and ease of use in USA reviews, too. Their only disadvantage would appear to be the fact that they measure not in ounces, but in decimal point values of a pound. I'll just have to do the maths!

Most interested to see how many of you rate didital scales.I first tried a set some years ago and found them totally useless unless you wanted to kill the fish! They were so delicate that whith a live fish you could never get a reading! I pressume this problem has now been sorted?

Have any of you digital users ever had your scales checked for accuracey after having had/used them for any length of time? if so how do they hold up?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Jim Gibbinson:

Accuracy isn't important, Peter - here in Kent we weigh our fish by swinging them twice round our head and reading the weight on the downstroke!

How else do you think we amass such impressive lists?

Thats rubbish Jim! they all know that we dont need to weigh fish here in Kent as we allready know what each of them weighs!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

My local Trading Standards Officer checked my Sampsons when I first got them. Spot on. I've checked them couple of time since with a collection of sea fishing weights. Still spot on.

Budgie, I think the "problem" with digi scales is simply one of perception. It seems to be accepted that when using spring balances you will get a bit of trembling on the needle, in fact you will get that with all spring balances.

Most people accept that and go for the "middle line".

Digis show up the movement more, so are perceived to be difficult to read.

Trick is to wait for them to settle.

PS I have, and carry, both types...and the kitchen sink!
