French fish in

Sportsman

Recommended Posts

Sounds great but it's getting a little on the expensive side for me, over £100 for three days fishing, bait, the crossing, food, fuel etc etc so as they say in dragons den.....I'm out, but the best of luck to all who make it

that's because you buy a new CP every week :D

I am trying to get an idea of a realistic overall cost so we can either move forward or just forget the idea.

I am working on the assumption that we could get 12 people.

Enjoy Sportsman

French Carp are TOTALLY different to UK ones you usually need Anchors and ropes to catch them well I do use No2 hooks and 18lb line but still get broken.

Not been for a year since I was ill but next year I will be-- I won't be going with you but will be over in August/September at my usual Place Twin Lakes near Soumeras Pitou Charente. Carp yes up to 40lb Nase at 4-6lb I'm told still not caught one of the little beggars Perch to 3lb and a nice little snack bar/bar (I'm not allowed to drink any more) but it gives me what I need a place to unwind and enjoy the fishing

Afraid I'm much in the same boat as Ian.I can most likely get enough together for travel expenses but if we are looking at paying out another lump for a ticket it will prove a bit to much for me.Will have to see nearer the time. Also as the travel is the major expense it would be definitely worth considering the amount of time spent.I would have thought a week would have to be the minimum to make it worth while.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I know what you mean Budgie. I suggested the fishery because that is what most folk coming to France want to try, the big carp and cats.

I would be happy to fish the river but it is a long way to come for the same sort of fishing that you can have at home.

having said that there are miles of free riverbank on the Mayenne where night fishing is allowed and where you have a better then decent chance of a big (30 plus) river carp, plus the bream, tench pike zander etc.

If anyone was up for that it would put a different complexion on things.

It would be wild camping with no home comforts be could be fun ;)

March crossing Portsmouth-Le Havre, Return Car+4 passengers....GBP122.00

Via Michelin says 2hrs 45mins to Mayenne. EUR15 tolls + EUR20 fuel

Gite, sleeps 10....EUR360.00(total cost)............about GBP325.00

10 acres of land. Even has some lakes for fishing! Says ideal for anglers. Not sure about the piano ;)

http://www.clevacances.com/FR/location-vac...05353MS005.html

Works out GBP68.00 for the week for 10 people. :D

(Plus food, fags, beer, bait, licence)

I assume there is a McDo in Mayanne :D otherwise pizza emporter and kebabs.

You'll have to believe me when I say France is the fast food capital of the world these days! (Apparently McDonalds biggest market after the US.)

The missus is happy to do all the local lingo stuff...........she is French, and most of her (huge) family live in that area.

Anyone want a lift from anywhere from Oxford, down the A34, we can take 2 LHD drive cars between, probably departing Wantage.

OK, if the guys that are interested really want to fish for big carp or cats then we are stuck with fishing a UK owned commercial.

That's going to cost around 200 quid. Then you have another 120 Euro for the food package (optional but worth it) and hire of items such as bivvies and beds if you don't want to load the car up. Bait is likely to be 30-50 Euro and then you have the ferry and petrol. It looks like realistically you are facing a bill of 400-500 for the week. More than I imagined when I started this.

Options include fishing rivers or lakes where bivvying / night fishing is allowed. OK for short sessions but a week without showers or toilets may not appeal to everyone. You would not be catching the numbers or size of fish from a river but some may prefer that and you would be saving 2-300 on the overall cost. There are some nightfishing swims on the Mayenne that produce decent carp and occasionally cats (which are supposed to be killed) They also provide excellent bream, roach and tench fishing as well as pike and zander

There are a few French venues that are a little less expensive but this is reflected in the stocking density and size of the fish.

Lastly there are other lakes and rivers that offer excellent fishing, either free or for a nominal amount, but you would have to find somewhere to stay, like a camp ground or B&B. These places do not allow night fishing or bivvying.

March / April is quite a popular time to fish for the big carp (pre spawning) so if anyone is still interested we would need to book sooner rather than later.

Let me know
