Do you ever.....

go through spells where you go off fishing?

Well I must admit I'm going through one now. Since I came back from Ireland a month ago I haven't been once.

I spent all last winter looking forward to going carping on the river and now I find myself looking forward to fishing for chub and roach in the winter.

All of my gear is all mixed up and in a mess which is probably half of it, but I just can not be bothered at the mo.

Sorry if this is a bit negative but I was just curious as to whether anyone else goes through this as I can't say it's ever happened before.

I hope it doesn't last. :(

Yep It happens all the while.

I just try out something else (not new tackle but differentstyle of fishing etc).

I find it helps to not target the size of the fish but aim for the location of fish. I get more absorbed in targetting a hard to reach fish (not in distance)

I prefer rivers because there is always much more variety.

travel light and move often.

I also fish for shorter periods... I enjoy them more.

Above all I enjoy thinking up crackpot ideas to try an get a fish (even the tiddlers) from the most obscure of places.

Sad or what??

Variety is the spice of life.

Since taking up fishing again 3 months ago, ive learnt how to fish the waggler, in-line methods with hair rigs, fly fish for surface rudd/rainbows on big lakes, on the drop for surface carp.

and im still hooked

Yeah, all the time.

I vary it between coarse, sea and fly to keep things interesting. I'm also into scuba diving which distracts my attention away from fishing for long periods of time.

Sometimes I wonder if fishing is worth all the grief and expense, then those feelings come creeeping back and I have to be at the waters edge, whatever it takes. I don't think we have a choice in such things.

I'm supposed to be going tomorrow but at the moment can't be bothered even thinking about where to go and what to do. Something to do with the weather at the moment??

Isn't everyone like that to some degree?

I know Pike is my No.1 quarry but I have to just dump everything for a couple of weeks to go Trouting or go out on my bike...whatever. All it takes though is a story, a bit of good news, a picture and it all stats again.

Quite normal, especially if you do a lot. After a very busy period of guiding I have no interest in Catting at all.But as allready said a bit of a change is the answer. One year Me,Luke and Pat got so into bleak snatching matchs it was unbelievable, every spare moment between fishing and preperation was spent in fierce competition. We had all brought specialist carbon whipps the lot customers were some what amused to say the least! One important thing to remember is if you aint enjoying it you dont have to do it!Give it a rest then gfo back out when you really want to.
