Track Identification - largish bird

Newt

Moist sand. The print on the right side is from a 5 toe redneck - size 11 to be exact and put there to give perspective to the other ones.

Great Blue Heron?

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Newt,

WAG

For me, it will have to be determined by what it is not. It is not in the crow, chicken turkey family. They turn their feet slightly inward when they walk in a straight line.

The spacing between the prints, while there is no referrence in 2nd pic, looks to be to long for a heron. Also, I believe the heron has a curved down large toe nail which would have left more of an uneven impression. Not flat. It appears to be two birds. That too would leave out herons as, at least around here, the female is much larger than the male.

Can't be any of the large sea birds, no web.

You're in Florida. You have any storkes? Were there any pink feathers laying around? Might be a flamingo - I don't have a clue what their feet look like.

So that would be a size 10 in the UK......Nothing much is constant.

Given the size and lack of webbing, the obvious candidates would be heron, stork or crane.

Either that or they have eff-off big sparrows over there.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Cory,

For it to be a sparrow it would have to be along the Texas coast line. Newt's in Florida.

We must not be talking about the same critter. House sparrows are found just about everywhere in the world. I'd bet that there are not many states without a few Passer domesticus.
